overclocking e1705 7900gs in vista

hi i just got my e1705 today and it has vista loaded on it. i read somewhere that the 7900gs had a new revision done to it that wont allow older bios to flash to it. can someone explain to me what i need to oc this card under vista.

dont know too much about vista but I know the driver would have to have access to an unlocked bios...this can be found in the unlocked dell video card thread taht is stickied....Im assuming your card is rev1 so you want to use that one...take any precautions necessary first (i.e. setting usb to boot b4 the hard drive)

The newer 100.** drivers won't allow overclocking, even with the cracked bios. But with the cracked BIOS and using 97.46 driver you still can overclock quite easily through the control panel using the Latest Ntune.

Have Fun.

What you can do is use Nbitor (google it) to download the bios from your video card and manually adjust the frequencies. Then you can flash the card with the modified bios. This will permanently set the speeds so you won't need to do anything in software or use old drivers.

what program would i use to flash card with under vista

Same as XP because the flashing is all done in DOS...

Have a look at THIS thread.

You need to run nibitor as an administrator in Vista...ie. right click on the exe file and choose "run as administrator". This will let you read your GPU BIOS... Overclocking in Vista can be done just as newfiejudd said, using the unlocked nVidia BIOS and nTune.

reason i callled vista stupid is because im logged on under admin and when i try running some programs it says i dont have enough privelages to run program. its stupid turning a home version into a business setup. i get sick of dealing with privelages and permissions at work why would i want to deal with this crap on a home pc

You could always use nvflash -b to backup your bios

Ok, here's a question. How do you get the clocks to stick after reboot in Vista. I can overclock with ntune no problem, but the clocks go back to staock after reboot. I have tried the saving the profile method and they still won't stick.
Again, don't know exactly why they arent saving but if you want the clocks to be the same why dont you modify the bios to have those clocks by default?

to get the setting to stick i flashed them to bios so i can upgrade my drivers and not worry about overclocking again. basically i opened up the bios file with ntune and modified to clocks to what i wanted. then i save the bios and flashed it to my video card. and btw who the hell get spyware and malware, only idiots who dont know what the hell theyre installing on their cpu in the first place. i never got any in xp.

installing onto the cpu?

While the security features built into vista are nice in some respects the problem a lot of people seem to have are the extra 1 or 2 steps you have to take to get things done. Vista is supposed to be easier & more secure but seems to be sacrificing ease of use in order to maintain that security.

It gets annoying dealing with pop-ups. I disabled the User Account Control (UAC) on my copy because I was sick of the endless security warnings for the most menial tasks. If I chose to log my self in as the administrator I want the computer to respect my decision, not ask me over and over again "are you sure??????"

Vista auto-demotes admins to regular users by default in order to increase security. In order to fix this do the following :
  1. Launch Control Panel
  2. Type "UAC" in the search box at the upper-right hand corner of the window
  3. The option to disable UAC is the first search result.
  4. Disble UAC
get control of your OS back!
