Help with Desktop Build Thoughts, Opinions, Problems on setup!!!

Thread Starter
I am looking to build a Gaming/Work Desktop. I am looking to keep it in the price range I already have but if you know of a better part or one part not working good with another please let me know as I am new to this.

Motherboard-Asus P5N32-SLI Deluxe

CPU-Intel E6400 Core 2 Duo(CPU and Motherboard off ebay 478$)

Hard Drive- Western Digital Caviar SE WD3200JB 320GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive(85$ from newegg.com)

Fan-ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler(70$ from newegg.com)

Case-APEVIA X-Navigator ATXA9N-BK/500 Black Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case ATX 500W dual fan w/ automatic fan speed control. Connector 20 + 4 pin Power Supply(85$ after rebate from newegg.com)

Video Card-XFX PVT71PUDP3 GeForce 7900GS 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 EXTREME Video Card(145 After Rebate newegg.com)

RAM-Kingston 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory(170 newegg.com)

Optical Drive-SAMSUNG Black 18X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 18X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2M Cache E-IDE/ATAPI DVD Burner - OEM(30$ newegg.com)

Please help me with any info and compatibility problems that might occur. Also can I just use my Dell OS disk to install Windows XP so I wont have to buy a new OS and how do I go about drivers? Also will be finishing it all off with a 22" Dell LCD Screen. Will all this perform together nicely?

I would recomend a 8800GTS 320mb version since it is very close to the price of your 7900.

Also for Ram I would highly reccomend this it overclocks great, and has incredible stabality, and a better clock speed

Overall looks good though

Well I see a lot of problems in your build. Here are my suggestions: CPU: The E4300 offers a better value for your money if you plan to overclock it (and it seems that you are planning it, seeing as you're buying a CPU cooler). E4300 $169 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115013 MOBO: The gygabyte DS3 is a solid mobo at a cheap price: Gygabyte DS3 $129 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128012 HD: Get a Sata2 HD, seagate > WD and the 16MB is a plus: Seagate 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive $90 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148140 CPU COOLER: Get a TT BT, it's cheaper and gets the job done: ThermalTake Big Typhoon http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835106061 RAM: Get these Corsair XMS2 for only $167 after rebate, they're much better than those kingston rams CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145590 VIDEO CARD: Your choice is not bad the 7900 offers great value for the money right now, but if you want something more powerful and future proof you could get the 8800GTS for $280 AR http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130082 CASE: Do you really want/need a full tower? I'll leave that up to you, but I do recommend getting a better PSU, so try to buy a cheaper case that doesn't come with a PSU and... PSU: This is the essence of your computer, don't supply energy to quality parts through a crappy PSU. I will recommend you this OCZ, but there are several others and a price search could save you a few bucks. Look at this thread for references: http://www.jonnyguru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103 OCZ GameXStream OCZ600GXSSLI ATX12V 600W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341001 LCD: I would try and get a S-IPS panel screen. I've had the 20.1" S-IPS Dell panel, and it looks WAAAAY better than the 22" TN panel... Good luck and enjoy your new rig! Edit: Forgot to mention this, I don't think that your Dell windows will work on your new rig...
