New Alienware Laptop

Has anyone heard any specifications on the new laptop which is do for release at the end of the first quater?

I was shopping for a new m9700 when I found out that AW is releasing a Duo Core SLI enabled rig. I'm wondering if it will have all the same goodies as the m9700 such as Internal Blue Tooth, TV Tuner, S-Video and Coaxial in, Fiber Optic out, Vga out.

The m9700 is a whole lot of laptop for the money, not sure if I should wait or not....

Well that is more info than their live chat assistant knew when I talked to him. I'm looking for more info on remote connectivity. From what I can see it will be using the same notebook case so I assume the same connectivity would apply to the new system?

From what I understand, it's the m9700 but with a new motherboard to support the core 2 duo, and DDR2 memory. They apparently reworked the gpu bay for better cooling to allow top end vid cards.

I would assume the connectivity is the same, but that's just an assumption.

From what i have been able to gather from images, other forums, and sites; is that everything will like the current m9700 except that it will be an Intel Dual Core verses the AMD64. Though I have not been able to confirm the Optical link will also be on the m9750 that is not a deal maker or breaker. Im just trying to figure out if the duo core is worth waiting for. I know Vista works better on Dual Core CPU's but I have always heard AMD is the way to go for gaming. Anyone have any thoughts on one verses the other......

Well... The turion is being phased out this year to be replaced by the X2 turion dual core. Unfortunately they use different sockets so you won't be able to put an X2 into the m9700.

Future games will take advantage of dual core processors, and of course multi tasking and multi threaded applications will run much better on the core 2 duo over the turion.

For the past year or two, intel has really progressed. Back then, AMD was king of gaming with the dual core athlons. However at this point intel is clearly outperforming AMD in terms of heat, power useage, and outright performance, and frankly mobile processors are different than the desktop processors that AMD used to gained their rep for gaming..

The other difference with the m9750 is DDR2 memory.

The turion is no slouch, I love my m9700 and expect it to continue to work fine for several years for my uses. However if I were in the market right now for a new laptop that I wanted to last as long as possible, I'd likely wait for the m9750. If I needed a laptop right away I wouldn't hesitate in getting an m9700, but at these prices I wouldn't have an issue with waiting a month or two for the newest-best technology available.

The only other consideration for me would be price. I expect a loaded m9750 will be more expensive than a loaded m9700...

But would you go with SLI this time around? I know I wouldn't if the price difference between the dual 7950gtx's and a single card are anywhere near what the m9700's prices were. Dominic, if you end up waiting for an m9750 just let us (m9700) owners give you our best idea of what you should configure it with as I think we all have a pretty good idea right now on how awesome it will be. I want one.

After my experiences with the m9700, I'd definitely go with SLI. Damn the cost...

If I was getting an m9700 today I would be looking at the following...

AMD TurionX64 2.0ghz
TV Tuner W/ remote
XP Media with free upgrade to Vista. Same price and I get both...
17" WideXGA+ 1440 x 900 maybe with Conspiracy Blue (Both Silver and Blue look killer)
1 Gig Mem (add more later)
80 Gig single HD (upgrade later)
DVD Burner Dual Layer
256MB NVidia® GeForce™ Go 7900 GS (Add second SLI card later)
Respawn
Ussually $2009 though today the price would be down to $1978

No I dont have a "budget" so to speak of. I am however a follower of the old cliche' {A fool and his money are soon parted} The main reason I would wait and get a 9750 verses the 9700 is because I have no way to upgrade the CPU on the 9700. I'm assuming Intel will continue to make upgrade's which are compatible with the current Dual Core X2 chip socket. For me it would be a fool thing to by a system which could not be upgraded.

I use much of my PC for video/photo editing. I enjoy Warcraft as well as RCT. Im not big into the online or multiplayer games. I was an early adoptor of those way back in the mid 90 and got burned to many times by other players. Cant say I want to spend 30 a month for others to anger me. The most intense game I would play is also the most system demanding game. Or atleast that was the way it was reported when it was released. Flight Sim 10 from MS. I guessing from my use that SLI imediately wont be much of a benifit so Im thinking I can wait. Sorry HH I know how you love that SLI.

Main reason I am "juiced" about the m97xx line is the video options and the internal Bluetooth. Can not stand having things stick out of my laptop unless they absolutly need to.

M9750, IMO is a really kick @zz system, but with a really suck@zz color. I though the elite did away with the basic black when it comes to their gaming systems. What gives??? In addition to the BS black, they should also offer this one in various wicked custom colors and maybe some airbrush images. I'm also waiting to jump on this one but may wait a little longer for something a little more edgy looking. I'll wait for the famous colors this company is so famous for.

Nuff Said

I'm thinking the black will look a lot better in real life than in the (tiny) pictures on the internet and low quality movie clip that we've seen it in.

I think the Black will look "nice." However Im not buying an AW to look nice. One thing that sets the AW line apart is the "Alien Vanes" On the cover. ANYONE walking into a room would instantly know you mean business and are a serious gamer. With black on black its going to look like a regular plane jane laptop until you walk up to it. I want people to know it kicks ass from afar. My other worry will is that I dont think from afar you can tell the alien head LED from a DeLL LED, leaving most to think I have a boring notebook. With no specs to speak of who knows maybe they will release the colors... It is after all using the same chasse (spelling?) as the m9700.......

The alien head should be pretty visible on a darker laptop, as opposed to a lighter one though.

I am a fool, no doubt I'd probably go with the m5790 if I didn't want SLI, because it is a bit slimmer/sleeker. Imagine the black will look very good ... does anyone know if they will still be offering green and blue?

Shazza, I think that if you ask then Alienware would probably do whatever color you would like given the support you show them.

I want a tortoise painted one.
