Great timing, Sager! :(

So 2 days after my warranty expired, my 9750 decided it wants to go to Sager's repair house...

I was watching dvd on my 9750. The screen suddenly turned off and the machine froze. I made a cold reboot and the problem got worse.

From that time on, every time I try to start the computer, one of these things happen randomly:
- Grey screen, sometimes flickers, no activity.
- Black screen (no backlight), no boot, clicking sound from speakers and dvd drive.
- Screen turns off, followed by machine freeze. Happens randomly after turning on. Pretty much I can't get to windows desktop anymore.
- Sometimes BIOS resets its settings, except the clock.

Any suggestion on what could be the cause? At this point I'm just willing to try anything.

Thanks in advance.

Try reseating you Video Card - Also clean and apply AS5, if possible.

Has the unit ever been cleaned - internally that is on the from of the Heat Pipes?

Yes I cleaned heat sinks, fans and reapplied AS5 on CPU and GPU just 3 months ago. However it didn't seem to help a lot with the temperature. My GPU idles at 55C, even with room temp of about 20C...

I'm typing on it right now, one of the 2 times it stays on for about an hour since yesterday >.< Both were after I let it cool for hours. I'm turning on max fans and see how long it lasts.

I may also try reseating the vid card, but I've never done that. Is it easy? Thought about it last night but I didn't see the screws.

Have you contacted Sager yet?? If you ask politely, they might be able to help you if your warranty only expired a couple of days ago. It's worth a shot.

Yeah I wrote to them before posting here. They replied I'll have to pay and wait like other out-of-warranty repairs...

The good news is, I reseated the vid card. It's been running stable for 4 hours now. So I think that cured it. Just thinking about having no comp for at least 2 weeks makes me shiver

Well looks like I was happy too soon. After 12 hours of running strong and stable, the same symptoms came back.

Reseated the card again and again. No luck. Now the only thing happens after turning it on is static clicking sound from speakers and the dvd drive trying to open. I'm afraid I killed the card with static shock in the process.

I'm now ordering a new video card from Sager, likely a 7950gtx. Price is hefty compared to the desktop version, but what choice do I have.

A few questions:
- How does it... feel or look when a static shock happens? Everything seemed normal when I was working on it.
- Is the video card in the 9750 an MXM standard card? If so, what type and what's a good store for them?

Thanks.

Static shock can be almost invisible or it can be a brief "Blue Haze" type of thing. I would recommend that the unit be returned to the "shop" for evaluation before just going out and buying a replacement GPU. I say this because if the GPU was "blown" due to static shock, there is a better than even chance that the Motherboard was also "fried" at the same moment..... hate when that happens...
