Help - I Need to purchase a mobile graphics card

I have an Alienware Area 51m 7700 with d900t ver 5.2 motherboard. The Ati m28 X800 graphics card has gone bad. I need a new one. I don't want to send my laptop to Alienware due to all of the extra fees. This card is really easy to take out, and I can install it myself. The problem is I can't find anyplace that will sell me a card for this computer.

The manual list the following cards are compatable.
ati m28 x800
Nvidia nv41glm
nvidia nv41m

New, Used, Referbished - it doesn't matter, as long as it works.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

welcome to the forums, you might want to check out www.rjtech.com they may have something for you, but you may need to change out your motherboard

i'm assuming you are out of warranty?

Yea www.rjtech.com should have compatible video cards. Just make sure the one you order is compatible with your motherboard. However, if you are still under warranty, there should be no fees associated.

rjteck.com is your first choice they offer 7800 & 7950
but you can't install that on this MOBO version
you should go to 6800 or 6800ultra nothing more

by the way i got a used 6800 it's working fine i just replaced it with 7900 from rjteck.com

the problem is i'm in egypt & mail will cost little more

If you call Alienware customer service, they'll sell you a replacement card if they have them in stock. You can install it yourself and not have to deal with labor or shipping for the replacement. All upgrade parts from Alienware are at their "vendor" cost which is about 10% less than their retail pricing.

If they don't have them in stock anymore, rjtech.com is your best bet.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for responding to my problem. I have emailed www.rjtech.com and I am awaiting their reply. I purchased the laptop two years ago, and the warranty has run out. I discovered today, that the graphics card fan was not spinning. I believe the bad fan, along with the heat, finally did it in. I do not know when the fan stopped, but it eventually fried the card.

I will keep you posted.
