Can I use the Ghost image of one laptop in another?

<table border="0" cellspacing="5" width="100%"><tbody><tr><td>

I have a Dell XPS 1210 with Windows XP, and in a few days I will get a new XPS 1210, exactly same configuration but with Windows Vista installed.

If I experience Vista complications/problems, I was thinking of using a Ghost disc image of my current 1210 (XP) in my new 1210 (Vista). This way I could use XP in the new lappy while I wait for an improved Vista.

The question is if I will get support and upgrades for both 1210 working with the same Windows XP. I will use one at home and the other at office.

I was thinking of using a dual booting system (XP and Vista), but I do not have a Windows XP cd to install in my new "Vista 1210"

Thanks

with that, wouldn't it just be better to swap the hdd? Unless your hdd size is different

It would work, but like kakarot said its just easier to swap drives.

you can ghost your orginal laptop drive to an external usb or ieee drive. Just use ghost to image drive to a file locaed on the usb drive. You can also retore the image the same way. If you need help making the boot disk let me know.

The hdd are the same, but I want to use both laptops, one at home, one at office. That's why I was asking if I would be able to get support and updates for both laptops.

Fine, but I want to use both laptops, and my concern is if I will be able to get support and updates for both.

Well, that is what I am trying to find out.... I have two laptops, A and B. I want to ghost A and install it in B. Then A and B will have exactly the same Windows XP, therefore same license for both laptops (OEM, I guess, because that is what comes installed in recent Dell laptops, right? ) Will I be able to get support/updates for both laptops?

you can always download updates from Dell. I don't know if you can transfer oem licensing, i think not. I know the full version of vista can be transfered. This was a big debate when it was released. you might want to check with Dell. I am guessing that the oem can not be transfered.

then you can ghost the system, and reimage it onto the second hdd. As long as both systems are equal in specifications (excluding hdd and optical drive... i think there might be some others), they should boot up without any problems
