SD Card

Yesterday I tried to use the SD slot for the first time since I received my PC. Nothing came up in my computer, so I looked in device manger and it had a ! (this device is not working properly) next to disk drive for the card I put in. I deleted the drive and the controller, thinking it would help, and it didn't (I knew this card worked and had no issues). Is there any software for the controller except the windows generic?

Thank you.

It would certainly help if you could tell us what model of notebook you are using, however have you looked on Dells web site for drivers? For example if you have the E1705/9400 then you will need the Ricoh drivers to make your card reader work properly.
Let us know how you get on.

I tried quickset, installing the new intel drivers, installing the dell drivers - I am at a loss... When I have the Ricoh drivers installed and I insert the card - the system freezes for about 2 minutes and then comes back. When I double click on the SD card - it gives me operation failed. Other times, it will not even show up and have a ! next to it.

Did you go to Device manager and use the update driver, have disk method for updating the ricoh drivers for all hardware that uses them? You have to know where your ricoh drivers are on your hard disk to use the have disk method.

Try a different SD card - I had the same problem and it was just that particular card.

I tried 2 so far. One of which was from a tomtom and the other was a 2gb 150x card. I 'll try to find more.

I tried to reinstall XP, same issue. So I tried the drivers... nope...

I think it maybe the SD slot on the MB. I'll request a MB and get it Monday or so. Kinda sucks though since the MBs are refurbs and you don't know who had the other one, or what was wrong with it...

On the other hand, I can always use a little usb to MMC/SD adapter all the time :P

What does everyone think?

yeah id get a new one from dell if you can or ask them to give you a new system. But you'll have to go through all the hassle of doing the tests and diagnostics for them i expect.

Smooth_J,

Save your money and learn to google a little better. Search "e1705 dell forums sd card fix", first listing maybe, at this link http://www.leog.net/fujp_forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10468.

Starts with a VAIO and the last thread gives a link to Dell for the updated driver. It took fifteen minutes to find this morning. I had a 1 GB that won't read then after driver it worked perfectly.

Your money is hard earned so hold onto it for as long as you can.

HTH,
Rich

Good advice for an e1705, but he has an i9300.

I had a 9300 for a little over a year and my card reader never, ever worked. Picked up a 14-in-1 card reader for like $15 from newegg.com after trying for a month or so to get it working.
