Vista and Sleep and Laptop lid Problems - Page 2

interesting.. I've been running Vista since last summer and never had an issue with it going into standby when I close the lid and it always wakes up just fine.. That's on my 1705 though and I'm STILL waiting to get the upgrade for the 5550.. I have hibernate disabled, that thing has always been a POS..

Having this issue with my 9700 as well. All power-save features are disabled, but from time to time opening my lid will freeze my system and force a hard-boot.

What drivers are you using? I had an issue where the cursor would freeze after coming back from the screen being shut off, but it only happened with 93.xx and 94.xx driver packages. Didn't happen with the old stock AW driver. I'm using XP though...

Using XP as well (won't upgrade for a while). I was using 93.71 and 97.44 and had the cursor freeze issue with both.

I'm currently swiched back to AW stock drivers which cured the cursor freeze. My current issue (opening laptop lid freezes system) is happening with these.

To further elaborate on this issue: I was listening to WMP, and opened the lid at which time the music froze into a screech, and I was forced to hard boot.

I'm beginning to think that this is strictly an Nvidia driver issue.

I'm hoping for the best with the new BIOS.

Hukashi: I found something from nVidia -

NVIDIA Vista Graphics Driver Issues
The following are some of the top issues reported by end users that NVIDIA is currently investigating. If you are experiencing this issue, please feel free to submit a new bug report using the descriptions below. NVIDIA is actively working on fixes for these issues.

* On resume from hibernate or sleep, the monitor only shows black but the computer is powered on. This can be worked around by completely turning off your computer and then restarting it.

Well geez thanks Nvidia. Do you mean that I should just forget that my laptop is supposed to be able to sleep and I should just shutdown everytime I need to change my work location? Nvidia really goofed. I'm sure their lack of support for Vista will somehow bite them in stock prices.

So I'm looking for the BIOS update and it's a no go so far. Anyone able to find it yet?
I found one cure for this problem last night. Sure enough after I posted that I'd never had the problem, I had it later that night.. It was the stupid media connect or media direct, or whatever that program is where you can connect an MC computer with an XBox 360. My son turned his 360 on while my laptop was also on and the laptop saw the 360. I decided to play around and connect to it and after that the stupid thing wouldn't go to sleep. I tried to reset the sleep settings thinking there was a hiccup, but that didn't do anything. Then I disabled all MCE extender services in Services and the laptop went to sleep with no problem again.

OK!

I just updated my BIOS and WHOA! what a difference.

I was able to get some new settings to pop up in the power settings.

The greatest part of this BIOS update is that.....YES! SLEEP NOW WORKS!!!

Great going Alienware!!!

I'm gonna go and see what other goodies this BIOS opened up!

After installing the 2.06W bios flash, WoW closes within a couple minutes of opening, without fail. The bios was installed correctly, so installation wasn't the issue here. I'm kind of.. sad.
koshinn it may be for your windows 64bit if your sig is correct, all teh drivers we have are for 32 bit,
post #39 of 39
64bit works with wow, im using 64bit drivers for my nvidia card and everything else. Basically, everything worked perfectly until the new bios .
