New Problem with Pavilion Dv1000 and Quickplay

hey guys, this is the weirdest problem ever. I was using my computer without internet or anything, cant remember exactly what i was doing but i assure you it was harmless. I had to reboot my computer for some reason, and when i did, after the Hp welcome screen or whatever you call it (where you press esc or f10 for boot sequences) i get the Quickplay boot screen. This is weird because i have never used Quickplay on my laptop and didnt know it actually existed. I tried rebooting again and again but nothing helped. But, if the battery dies or i pull it of and work on charge with no battery, i can get past the screen :S! this is weird, what does the battery have to do with the bootsequence. When i got past the screen i tried to reformat my partition. I deleted the whole 100gb of disk space, everything, and created a new partition for windows, reinstalled. But when i rebooted, the same problem occured, even though i have erased my entire disk. I then read somewhere that i need another partition for quickplay, so i created an unformatted partition right after XP's partition and gave it 1gb of space. Still no veil.

PS: i do not get the esc or f10 choices in the hp welcome screen, unless the battery dies.

Another weird problem, is if i boot into my computer, and the sounds are unmuted, i get lots of beeps and i cant type. But when i mute my system, i can open notepad and type. Is my laptop haunted or something ;p?

please, if you have any ideas on how i can fix any of the two, help me. OH btw, i only have an OS recovery CD and an Application/Driver Recovery CD, No quickplay cd.

Hi nesh87, Definitely a weird issue! Have you updated the BIOS recently? I have a dv1680us and found a BIOS update released late last year; you might hunt it down on HP's site. Also, the Quickplay partition is hidden from Windows; you will need to either use fdisk or a utility like Partition Magic in order to see it. I'm not sure what the battery has to do with it, but it sounds like your computer thinks you're hitting the Quickplay button instead of the power button when you boot (this is what triggers the machine to boot to Quickplay rather than the full Windows OS). Start with checking your boot.ini; it should be pointing to your Windows partition as the primary boot partition. If you're not sure how to read this, post it and I'll take a look. In the event you have to use your recovery discs, you can find download links and install instructions for Quickplay Direct here (I think the install instructions are on page 45 but don't hold me to it): http://www.notebookforums.com/thread141817-47.html
