I8kfanGUI version 3.1 - Page 2

so, besides the gpu needing an offset, do the other settings need an offset too? if so, by how much? i run a i9300 - 1.86ghz, 1gb ram, 6800 vanilla
post #22 of 34
Nope, nothing else needs an offset zoom_zoom, just the 8C on the GPU, the CPU is right on
post #23 of 34
Yup, thats what I have.
Now of course I am wondering why its only the GPU thsat needs an offset and not the CPUs, chipset, memory or disk ...
Good question, I do wonder...but I guess no one has so far found a problem in temps
post #25 of 34
I think it is more the lack of any backup indication. For the video card, you can easily look at your temp using their control panel. Thus it is easy to spot the discrepancy.

I am not aware of a simple way to check my CPU/HD/Memory temps other than I9KFANGUI. Certainly something exists, but with nVidia temps, you don't have to install anything extra and it is right there for you.

Theres a way round it, but it would be a pain. Needs done on every boot. After you power on, press F8 before XP starts to load. A menu will appear. Choose the one that says something about disable driver signing. I think you'd need to do this every boot though.

no need , you can disable driver signature requirement permanatly , i'm not at home so I don't have a link to give you , but try google for it.. it's quite easy , and I have I8kfangui 3.1 running on my vista x64.. pm me if you don't find it , i'll post the "how to" as soon as i get back from work.

Actually that is a problem. They did the same thing with ActiveX controls - the default is unusable (ask the user, every time, every page, if they want to allow the control to run) and they don't offer a 'trust this one control' option, just a 'switch off all checking and never ask me again'. At which point the user is less secure, but Microsoft has moved the liability from themselves to the user, for any security issues; the system was made less secure at user option. Same deal here. Either all code has to be signed - bye bye small developers - or none is, and if any malicious code is run its your own fault and not their responsibility.

I know .. I never liked the way security worked on Windows platforms.. but that's why im trusting more on myself(knowing which files to open/install) than on windows. so driver signage is off at my side. I would suggest to leave it on if you are unfamiliar on how malicous software can get inside your computer.. but if you have the knowledge - just turn it off and make your life easier.

okay, I have a new xps-m1710 and I've had huge problems with display drivers. Only ones I can get to work properly with my system is the Dell ones. I thought I was having an overheating issue so I installed i8kfangui to monitor my temperatures. Ever since then the system fans don't turn on when needed. I've tried playing around with the different settings, everything from Show temperatures only/no fan control, to adjusting when the fans come on at which temps. Nothing worked. Another odd thing, when I select Force fans to high speed it runs fully for 2 seconds, slows down minutely for a fraction of a second, then back to full. It loops like that. Reading the posts it seems like others with M1710s are having problems with this as well. Is it not supported? And is there something else to use just to monitor temperatures?

So, after installing it you went into options, status reading, and switched on the internal sensors? Just checking

yea. It's recognizing and monitoring everything. I didn't even know it had sensors to monitor the chipset and memory. I think I might have figured out the problem though. I changed the drivers after I had installed i8kfangui. I uninstalled i8kfangui today after posting my problem and it seems to have fixed it, I just wanted to make sure that this did fix the problem before I posted it.
another note for people that read this thread for heating issues. I bought the Zalman ZM-NC1000 notebook cooler. It made a HUGE difference in temperatures. Mostly the Hard Drive and Memory. As far as the fan, it's hardly noticable when your computer is just in windows, but if you do anything that requires your laptop's fan to spin up, it's quieter than those fans. I have ordered some Shin Etsu X23-7783D Thermal Grease and when it gets in I'll create a new thread with full stats on cooling with and without the notebook cooler and thermal grease.

so no one had any issues ware i8kfangui default reads really high temps on cpu ? i just installed i8k on vista after dell replaced my mobo booted up looked at i8kfangui CPU peaked at 100C idles 45/50c with full fans and with fans off :P have told em to come reseat the cpu but just wondered if i8kfangui had any known issues like that? (otherwise i8k exactly same experience as i had under xp) this refurbed mobo is running A05, i will probably flash back to A06 and leave bios in control once this is sorted.
