Charging New Battery

for best battery life results out of my new laptop - can i charge the new battery while using the notebook simultaneously? or should i let the notebook sit shut down while the new battery is being juiced up?

if you have the 90 watt adapter then you can charge it fine while its on but if you have the 65 watt then your better off doing it off

I think you mean 90 watt adapter not 90 watt battery! Anyway, this is true, the 65 watt adapter doesn't put out enough to both use the laptop and charge at the same time (at least not at a decent recharge speed), so its best to have the laptop off if charging from this adapter. If you have the 90watt then its fine to both play and recharge at once as it will be almost as fast as charging with the laptop off.

May I also ask; the very first time that you recieve your laptop, how long should you charge it. (just till it full or do you have to do a 12-24 hours charge like some other rechargeable batteries).

Not sure if Dell mentions anything about conditioning the battery. Not sure if it needs it. And Not to promote Apple but their manual suggests charging the battery fully, then letting it run down until the system shuts down from lack of battery power.. then charging normally. This only has to be done one time and at that point you can charge at any battery level.

Just something I read as I was "forced" to set up a new G4 Powerbook for work...and I know nothing about Macs.. and don't want to!

My 8600 arrived today, and both batteries were fully charged on arrival.

The Lithium-Ion batteries do not, as far as I know, need to be conditioned to work properly.

The XPS comes with a 150 watt adapter, it is not rated to work with a power supply of anything less than 150 watt's (at least according to the manual).
