Anyone know of a car charger that's compatible with the Toshiba laptops?? I looked on their site, but they don't have one. I bought a generic charger at Office Max today, but about 5 seconds into having the laptop plugged in, it goes into surge protection mode and just has a high pitched squeal, so I am going to assume it's not compatible.

But I really need a charger for the car.

Thats integrated too. Its Nvidia's answer to the Intel GMA 950 that was in some of the others you asked about: I found this:
NVIDIA GeForce Go 6100 / 6150 is the integrated graphic of NVIDIA nForce Go 430 MCP for AMD Turion notebooks. It doesn't have any integrated memory, but uses a part of the mainmemory (up to 128 MB) like the direct competitor Intel GMA 950. Therefore the gaming performance is quite moderate and can only be used for elder games.
Check out the video chips for yourself at this site;

If you dont see it mentioned, do a Google search for "review nvidia geforce go 6150" eg, same as I do.

It'll depend on the model. I've got a generic benq one that works great with my tecra's.

You'll need to make sure to get one that has an output voltage and amperage that can be used by the laptop. To find out what the laptop uses just look on the AC brick. There is a sticker that will say something along the lines of:

input: 100v-240V~ 50-60Hz
output: 15V 4A

Now make sure that the output Voltage is the same and that the amperage is equal to or greater than that and you should be good to go (assuming you have the right tip as well). The screeching in your adapter might be becasue the laptop is rying to draw more amperage than the adapter can deliver. I had an adapter die on me from this.

I called Toshibadirect and they had one, a Targus 90w charger for $125.99. Well clearly this is an aftermarket item, not a Toshiba item, so I went to eBay and found the same thing for $47.98 including shipping, so I ordered it. Since it's the exact same one Toshiba sells for my laptop, it should work perfectly. The charger I had was a bit odd. It didn't plug directly into the laptop, it was an outlet, just like the ones you would have in your house. So I had to plug my laptop into the outlet that charger supplied. The Targus one has all sorts of different ends, so you just find the one that matches you female input, and use it. It's coming from CA to me in CA so I should have it in a couple days, and I was happy with the price. Oh, and what's the AC brick? The guy at Office Max tried to find my sticker and we couldn't find one anywhere.

You power cord/adapter cord (normally two pieces) has a black retangular box built into it about 3x5 inches. Which is sometimes refered to as the "Brick". It should have the power information which it supplies to the laptop on it. Get a car power converter (from d/c to a/c ) which supplies the same amount of power (voltage and amperage)

AH HA! The Office Max guy was looking for that sticker on the back of the laptop. All the laptops they had there, on the shelf, had the sticker on the back, he showed me.

OK, my sticker says

input: 100v-240V~ 1.5A(1,5A) 50-60Hz
output: 15V --- 5A

Well then, you want to find a converter for your car, which would probablyplug into the cigarette lighter and change the voltage from 12v DC(car) to 15v 5amps (15x5= 75Watts)(A/C)

That's what Toshiba recommended, but instead of paying their $125,99, I bought it on ebay for $39.99. So I hope it's the right one, since it's the one Toshiba would have sold me for my laptop. :s

Then you should be good to go.

I have a new question now. This is going to be a lame one, but I can't figure it out. I bought this laptop to replace my old dinosaur that I rarely used, but we also are trying to move and I knew this one was satellite capable so I thought for the 2-3 months that we're essentially "homeless" (living in an RV or trailer) that I could still get online. But I don't know how to do that?? Someone told me they have a dial up card through their cell phone company, but that's dial up. What's the whole "satellite" thing do?

Reason I am asking is, we already have a pretty firm offer on our house and we might be moving out in about 40 days. :s

The Google search engine is a wonderful utility. I did a search for "satellite internet" and got this:

Now I did a search for satellite on google (love google) and all it comes up with is home based dish systems. I have HughesNet satellite dish at home, I would need something that is moble.

I did stop by Verizon and they have broadband unlimited for $60 a month (which is what I pay for my HughesNet) but theirs is much faster and unlimited usage. I can get online anywhere that I can access their phone service. So I'll probably go with that service, only thing I don't like is they have a 2 year contract, the most I'll need it for is 6 months. But I guess I'll do the same thing I did with HughesNet, and just pay the early termination fee when I am done using the service. :s
