Hey guys, I'm gonna buy a new notebook, not sure yet about the model/brand, but may be the Dell e1705 or HP Pavillion d9000t series. Looking for a prices quotes in Dell website, I can see some Complete Care Warranty options... I would like to ask you, if is really worth pay $140 up to $250 for 1 Year CC or 2, 3 Yrs...

Does Complete Care work like they said? If some part of my notebook just crash, or any kind of scratch, liquid etc... I'll be having a replacement only by calling them??

Thanks for attention.

In my opinion, yes it's definitely worth it. I personally didn't buy it for my E1705 and I do regret it.

It works exactly as you said, if ANYTHING accidentally goes wrong, they will replace the appropriate parts, or if the computer it total'd, they may send out a brand new computer. And because accident DO happen, I think this is definitely worth it.

Looks like the price went up from the $100 I paid few years ago. I still think it's probably worth it, though.

Do you drink or eat around your laptop, do you have kids, do you ever move the laptop, do you want to have peace of mind if anything does happen you are covered...then get it!

I have 4yr complete care on all my laptops. I have 2 kiddos & have used it one lappy so far that got into the hands of my 2 y/o.

I'd definitely recommend getting Complete Care. Not only is it peace of mind for yourself, it's peace of mind for a prospective buyer if you decide to sell it down the line. I know I wouldn't buy a Dell laptop from a private party unless it had Complete Care warranty. Dell's online system makes it very easy to transfer warranties as well.

If you plan on keeping your lappy for a while then I would say definately get it,its very cheap insurance and I have to say I have found Dell`s back up outstanding even if it`s not always easy to speak to the techs on the phone. I had a mobo replaced due to a faulty xd card reader,a new screen put on coz I didn`t like the samsung original it came with and I know that whatever happens in the next 3years that they will fix the problem no matter what, which is real peace of mind because laptop parts are definately not cheap.

It is def worth it. They replaced mine. I also work in a computer shop. If you have the complete care they are more willing to send you replacement parts vs. arguing for hours on chat.

Complete Care is definitely worth it,

And it adds value to the resale of your laptop should you decide to sell later

Thank you guys, I really appreciate the answers. I'm making this kind of config at dell.com:

Dell e1705

Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 - 2Ghz - 4MB cache...
17" WUXGA True-life - 1920x1200
1GB RAM
80GB SATA 5400 RPM
GeForce 7900GS 256MB
DVD+RW
80 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion
Large Backpack Carrying Case
Intel "Next-gen" Wireless-N (I don't know if it's right now better than the 3945, is this "next-gen" option the final version?)

With only the standard 1 year warranty, I'm getting the price of $1,554.00 on the notebook, and total being: Total Price: $1,631.70 (tax and shipping including).

With the same specs with 3 years warranty complete care, I'm getting the price of $1,801.22 and the total being: "Total Price: $1,891.30" (tax and shipping included). But unfortunately It's going far than I can pay, and I really liked the idea of getting the CC.

I'm doing last year at Highschool, we have a lot of Dell computers here, do I have any kind of good discount?? How can I apply for the EPP thing and try to see if there any kind of discount?

Thanks guys.

You can check the site here there is a Coupons section

Also, if you buy one years Warranty with CC you can then extend it later before the initial warranty ends.

I'm also living here in america for some months, I hope until December 2007. There is anyone that know if I can use the complete care thing in Brazil?...

Edit: If I buy with the 1 year standard warranty, can I add the complete care thing after?? The same price? more expensive?

I'd read the terms and conditions of the warranty contract on Dell's site. I don't believe it was a global warranty - warranties only in the countries where Dell has a presence (i.e. Canada, UK, etc). You can add Complete Care after you buy - but only within a month or so of initial system purchase. I bought mine with the standard 1 year warranty, and a couple of weeks later Dell sent me a letter with a $100 rebate offer to extend my warranty to 2-4 years w/Complete Care. I don't believe you can wait 11 months and then add Complete Care - this is probably to eliminate people who only extend/add Complete Care when a problem arises so they can take advantage of it 2 days later with a full system replacement.

Completecare is ridiculously cheap compared to similar protection at Best Buy. Several years ago, protection including ACCIDENTS was like $700 at best buy. My college friend just dropped his laptop down several stairs.........

You may never ever NEED completecare but the peace of mind that it will give you while going through airport security or if you hear that clunk in you trunk and you wonder if the potted plant fell over and emptied itself all over your notebook and if any dirt got into any crevice is worth the price.

You won't understand how sensitive you are towards your notebook until you get one and start moving it. The extra bit of cash is worth the reduced stress.

It would be a huge bargain and well worth it for expensive laptops ($2,000+), but I would not consider paying for warranty costing $300+ for laptops less than $1,000.

Well... I really wanted to get the complete care thing, but I think It'll make price go really high for me, I don't think in get the C2D 1.8Ghz instead 2Ghz to save money to get the 3yr complete care, what you would prefer?

Question: Buying the notebook with standard warranty, if the notebook just die some time after you bought, they send you a replacement too, right? The CC just prevent accidents in customer fault, but the replacement of unit is included in all kind of warranties... ?!?

I'm really being a little bit afraid of spending too much in a notebook that I know that Intel will introduce the new Centrino platform version in nexts months... but I sold my notebook before my trip and I really need a notebook now, ... It's so said =(

I used my last notebook, P4 3Ghz, for almost 3 years (~2.8 years), I didn't have any centrino notebook yet - unfortunatelly - even knowing the power of this thing. Then... when I have the oportunitty to buy one, It will be getting replaced soon, bah.. well, at least, buying this e1705 I hope to be using this notebook for some years like I did with my last lappy (P4).

I do hope that there isn't a one month limit... I bought this notebook in November, and have been meaning to add CompleteCare to my existing 3 year warranty ever since. I just haven't gotten around to it...

I do think I'll call them and inquire as soon as possible.
