IBM 760 power plug

I have an older IBM 760 ThinkPad. I need some help finding a way to remove the back panel holding the power recepticle. I started having trouble with the battery not charging or being able to run from the external power supply. I could put pressure on the power cord plug and force it to one side of the recepticle on the laptop and it would power up as long as I would hold pressure on the cord. Since the pins on the recepticle are loose, I thought it might have a broken solder connection on the inside of the panel.

If anyone has had experience with this sort of problem or can tell me how to go about removing the back panel, it would be greatly appreciated. Retired01

I have an identical problem with an IBM 760. I now have to keep pressure on the plug/cable in order to maintain power supply to the laptop.
I wonder if it is a problem with the cable or the connector.
Must be a reason the 4 pin 'D' is not used on newer models.
(The cable seems vulnerable to strain next to the block of ferrite near the connector).

I have searched for a replacement power supply - but haven't found one yet in UK.
Please let me know the solution.

Thanks for the info. I have tried three other IBM power supplies for this unit, all with the same results. This has led me to believe it might be on the backside of the pins on the unit. I will keep you posted. retired01

I found that a relacement (used) power supply, found locally on www, and bought just an hour ago, has solved the problem in my case.

Boy, I'm glad you solved your problem. I'm still looking for my problem. I still need to find the combination required to remove the back panel to look at the back side of the power pins. Thanks for the info. retiredo1
