Just picked up the 80GB iPod. Switched from my old one because the <2hrs for video play was killing me. Anybody getting anywhere near the 6 hrs video they claim for this one???
i have had two. and returned both. i was getting about one movie, 2hrs, and 4hrs of mp3's.

not what i call worth it. im looking at a refurb shuffle now, but may just go for an 8gb nano and be done with it! i like the shuffles idea, and its so small.

The shuffles are cute. I'd lose one in about a nanosecond, I imagine.

Hmmm...you had two 80 GB iPods that only got 2 hrs???? That would be disappointing, as that's the same performance I had with the 30 GB version...
no, i had the 30gb's. they both got 2hrs video + 4hrs of mp3's

just not what the doctor ordered here for 300$. also didnt like the Whole hard drive experience.

i would say the max the 80gb will get over the is 4hrs, but it does depend what you do of course. just mp3's id say about 18-19hrs. throw some movies in there, and watch your device become a wall outlet magnet.

thinking shuffle or 8gb nano right now. decisions decisions

yea I honestly wouldnt put much stock in apples battery times they have always been "best case scenario" if you ask me. I have a 5G video which has videos on it but I never use em. too small for me anyway
post #6 of 24
im sure my new nano 8gb will get more than 15hrs.

i just let it play usually, and dont use photo stuff

there is more to the hdd DAP market than teh ipod ya know. .. players that can give you 20h music or 6 hr video
post #8 of 24
Yes, and they hold what amount of the market exactly?
ill stick with an ipod for sure.

i like the itunes playlist stuff. the ipods are the best bang for the buck for me for sure. i dont need a 20-30gb player, as most people dont even need 5

the irony of this statement is astounding. anyway, I've got a 30 gig iPod that gets somewhere between 6-8 hours worth of music per charge with minimal screen usage. I've never used it for videos dues to the small screen, as mentioned earlier.

Really????? i thought Apple was the only one who made these little music player things

Well, I am now up to 4 hrs of video watching and there's still some battery time left, so guessing I'll get at least 5hrs. That's much better than the <2hrs I was getting with the 30GB version.

The screen is small, and I've been waiting for a larger display (Apple ) version to come out, but have given up. I don't mind the small display for watching TV shows ... and I use it on planes mostly.

for those of you who the screen is an issue and you use it more for video than audio, maybe you should be looking into a PMP rather than a DAP. they have larger screens and generally better video playback quality, and battery life.

@Kakaze... market share really doesn't matter. market share does not prove the superiority of your product. Dell has the largest PC market share...doesn't mean their computers are the best, just that more people recognize their brand than any other and are willing to pay for it. On the flip side of things, Subaru is recognized as having superior road-handling and a top-notch AWD system. however...not everyone is going to buy a subaru if they need a 4-wheel car. The fact that Apple has the largest market share simply means they are the most heavily advertised so more people (mainly americans) recognize the Apple brand more than some of the smaller (and much less advertised) firms like Cowon, iRiver, or even Creative Labs.

there are a lot of factors that define what leads to market share. surely product superiority is right up there? Dells main selling point is different than apples.

Dells Has got to be "best bang for the buck", while apple is "Best quality for the buck"

What im saying, Market share is proof of product superiority, it just has different forms. besides, dell is comparably priced to any similar apple machine, apple just doesnt market their products that way.

Not trying to start an argument here about which is best. Each to their own. Fact is, the iPod works great, and there are lots of offerings available from iTunes. If this doesn't matter to you, then don't buy one
post #15 of 24
yea the ipod has a much bigger following than any other player.

look at ebay, the accessories are just endless.

I'm still lost on what a DAP or a PMP is.

I guess I'm not up on TEH ROXXORS OF 'DA MAR-KIT, YKWIM?
DAP probably means digital audio player but I am not sure

PMP means personal media player

I couldn't give two hoots about market share or marketing. I use an Ipod because I'm comfortable with the way the Ipod functions, I'm familiar with it, and I like iTunes far more than any other software available for the "other" mp3 players. I absolutely love the way iTunes sorts my music, the covers it downloads, my plug-in that downloads lyrics for me, and the whole sorting system in general.

The simplicity of the ipod with one button and a scroll wheel is what won me over. Everything else after that just further reinforced my satisfaction with my decision.

xtremetoyz....its buyers like you who do your research and pick the best product for you is what i wish everyone was. of course you say that after looking at options you liked ipod, more importantly you liked itunes to go with it. i on the other hand despise itunes (and am a linux user to boot) so for me something that just mounts as an external hdd and allows for drag-and-drop action is essential. again, did my research and picked the best product for me. What bugs me is the "network effect" that ipod has....more and more people are buying ipods because all their friends have them. And why do their friends have them? Not because they are educated buyers doing their research and picking the best product for them, but simply because its the mp3 player they saw an ad for on tv and when they went to best buy the guy told them "you want an ipod". but thats another rant for another day.

DAP VS PMP: (quick and dirty explanation)
DAPs are smaller devices with smaller screens meant to play music (although many do support videos). PMP are the larger devices (with the 3 to 6" screens) which have more multimedia options, better video support, and their larger screens allow for better viewing. not very practical for music however because they are huge and not very pocket friendly.
