Question on T60P, FireGL GPU, Vista, gaming

Thread Starter
I'm contemplating a T60P purchase. Since this is going to be my only PC, I'd like something faster than the X1400 on the vanilla T60. So enter the T60P with the ATI FireGL 5250, which is based on the Radeon X1700 if I'm not mistaken.

However, are there any issues running this GPU for normal, "non-professional" applications? I'll be using mainly Office, Visual Studio 2005, Eclipse, Photoshop and Flash mostly. The only apps that I'll use that can truly take advantage of the GPU would be some -light- 3D Studio MAX and LightWave 3D.

How about games? Will I see any problems there? I'll be more than satisfied if I can run WoW at good settings, though I think I'd like to play Supreme Commander as well....

Finally, I notice ATI hasn't released official Windows Vista drivers for the FireGL line yet. But Lenovo ships the T60P with Windows Vista as an option - and they also have a driver on their website as well. Where did Lenovo's driver come from? Is this whole issue something I should be worried about?

When I owned TxxP's, the biggest problem I had with them was their support of OpenGL games. Quake 3, Doom3, Quake 4, etc. didn't want to run.

DirectX games work just fine though, and I think there were workarounds for the FireGL, I just never bothered with them.
