Mouse not initializing

I purchased a Logitech USB wheel mouse for use with my M6805. It installed fine and worked fine until I turned off the computer. When I turned it back on the mouse would not work unless I unpluged it and pluged it back in.

Also I can't figure out how to disable the touchpad. I don't want to use the touchpad at all, just can't get use to it.

I emailed eMachines tech support. There suggestion was to uninstall and reinstall all the usb ports. I did that and still have the same problem.

A restart of the computer is ok mouse still works, its just when I power down the machine and power it back up that the problem occurs.

Thanks in advance for any help or ideas,
SJL

I have encountered a slightly similiar problem. I am using a Logitech Wireless USB Optical Notebook Mouse. My problem only seems to occur when I hibernate though. If I hibernate the computer with the USB receiver plugged in, and then then bring it back out of hibernation (with the receiver plugged in prior to waking it up), the USB mouse isn't recognized. I simply unplug the receiver, and plug it back in, and all is good. I can restart the computer with the receiver plugged in, and it is recognized (haven't really shut it down much, so I'll try that and report back if I encounter the same problem). I just learned to live with it (its not a hassle really, and I figured it just doesn't reprobe the USB devices configuration when it transfers everything back from RAM when it unhibernates), I just plug in the receiver after it comes out of hibernation. I did NOT install the drivers for Logitech Mouseware program that came with it, because in my experience, it often more trouble that it is worth. PNP detcted the device just fine, so it made little sense to bother with the Mouseware stuff (maybe remove the Mouseware and try it with just the PNP detected configuration?). Do you still have the synaptics touchpad driver/utility installed? If so, is it possible to disable the pad from there? I have a clean install of XP Pro, and restored the touchpad driver/utility from Restore CD3.

OK problem fixed. The mistake I made was that I did not disable the touchpad BEFORE installing the Logitech mouse. I simply uninstalled the Logitech mouseware, reinstalled the synaptics drivers from eMachine restore disk 3 then disabled it then simply pluged in the usb mouse. Worked fine. Then I shut down the machine and powered back up and mouse still works. Yee Haa!

I have the same problem as SaiyanPrime. However, when I return from standby, my mouse no longer works even if I unplug it and re-plug it in. I actually have to reboot before my mouse is recognized again.

Is there a way to configure the touchpad to ONLY be disabled when a mouse is plugged in?

Not that I can see in a standard config. MS Intellimouse driver supports this but it also requires that the Synaptics driver be uninstalled first before Intellimouse will install, so you'll lose most of the advanced Synaptics functions . To me it wasn't worth it...
