Could be interesting. I love this cloak and dagger stuff.

Hey, mister...is that an 8600-compatible ATI 9700 video card hidden under your trenchcoat or are you just overly glad to see me?

heheheheeh

I find this highly unlikely but I guess time will tell

Depends on whether Dell plans to offer the 8600 with the ATI9700m in the comming months. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't. If they took the trouble to rework it to not include the legacy ports, plus the trouble and resulting bad press the 9100 is getting, I'd guess that the 8600 will be around for a while yet.

I's a bit like shooting the messenger isn't it?
I have news of something really hot and all I get is ridiculed.

Deltawalker: as reward for your sarcasm, you can't have one (if it's for real)

Seems like no one cares for theses cards, too bad.

Not so fast. I'm interested...a bit skeptical, but willing to see if your contact is for real on this. I'm waiting for your photos to see if the card will truly fit the 8600

Tijgert -- Any word on the ATI 9700 photos?

The guy should have the card in a week or so, pics soon after.
He's been selling 9600's for Inspiron 8600 and compatibles in Germany for a while now and is legit.
Of course his info is just as good as he gets it and if he's being bull****ted, so will I.

Time will tell..

Cool...the intrigue continues...

these are the pics of the 9700 from www.anandtech.com, i don't think that would fit into a Inspiron 8600

Dat's BIG! It looks more like a desktop video card than one for a notebook. I don't see how it would fit into an 8600 without some creative modifications, either.

Wonder if a FX Go 5700 (non CAD) will be released for the 8600 chassis...

Thanks for the info! Do you think it'd be worth the $$ and performance boost to replace my ATI 9600 with that new Quadro 1000?
Even if its not, i sure hope the temperature the quadro puts out is less than that of the radeon. Do you think that the quadro would still perform marginally better than the radeon with AA and AF enabled? I ask this because in the past, its been proven that ATi cards handle AA / AF better than nVidia cards.

Silly question, how exactly would i order one? Anyone got the web address?
no web address. call dell spare parts

the Quadro performs better than the M10 withOUT AA or AF but performs worse with AA and or AF on
post #39 of 54
if anyone is gonna replace their laptops with nvidia quadro's and have an radeon 9600, i will buy it off them pm me
post #40 of 54
DM- you sure about that? I won't upgrade if that's the case since i mostly play with AA and AF on. Do you have a link i could follow up on regarding this info?
