160 gb 7200 rpm SATA laptop drive, YES!!! - Page 5

Count me in as well. That way I can swap out the 100 gig and put it into my older machine and slap this new baby in. I definitely want one especially if there is a performance increase. Anyone bench that hard drive yet?

Ok I PM the interested about this drive, I have setup a group buy with NCIX, if we have enough people interested they will give us a special price on it.

They ship to Canada and the USA.

Anyone else let me know if they want in on the group buy so we can all get this drive cheap as possible

Thanks Dazog.

I don't think posting the URL here would be any problem..
If anyone is interested in a group buy for 160gig Seagate Momentus 7200.2 please reply here: http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/spons...a-seagate.html (you have to register)

I'm interested as well so long as it isn't too terribly expensive.

I cant get one of these for love or money here in the uk

NCIX said they will check the other forum's posts mid week.

Lets hope we have enough to get an awsome deal on this drive!

I picked one up (super-cheap through my business rep) from Dell and posted a review w/screenshots comparing it to the 160gb 5400rpm over here in this thread: http://www.notebookforums.com/thread196464.html

Actually, Tom's Hardware did a pretty good review in April. The Seagate smokes em all.

of course now that the 200's are out lol you should try to get a hold of those. I am considering taking my 160 out & dropping it in an enclosure & grabbing a 200 as soon as I can find one.

Price dropped at PC Connection to $166.10, but still on order.

I was too busy at work and did not sign up for the forum on the group buy, any news on it?

Thx for the update. At Monstronix the expected dates keep changing but you can signup for email notification. Check on both the ST9160823ASG and ST9160823AS depending on your preference. I'm ready for almost either so I can start on a Vista Ultimate dual boot with XP.

EDIT: Provantage is listing the -AS for $162.45 (backordered, of course).

I am awaiting NCIX to email me back wich should be tuesday.

Due to the monday stat holiday.

On the group buy price and availability.
NCIX cannot get stock on this drive.

So it looks like there will be no group buy.

I wonder if all of segates Stock is going straight to the oems
post #94 of 108
No-one in the uk has this drive either, every site i find has "2 weeks" before delivery and that never changes and 1 site has changed to "not available" Im considering the 5400 drive now.
no one seems to really have it in stock anywhere, at least from what i've seen. i'm almost planning on going for just the 120gb 7200rpm, since it seems to be available (http://www.provantage.com/seagate-st...s~7SEGH01X.htm) and i am just cramped for space on the 60gb i have now (actually not at the moment with 15GB free, but not all my games are installed). i'll probably wait another month or so, though, and hopefully places will have it in stock and it will be cheaper. also, maybe i'll consider the 200gb if it's avaiable too, though probably not, since i don't need that much space.

Insight shows them in stock now! $180.44! They don't show the shipping cost online without an account so I called and they said shipping is $11 but he was willing to drop it to $9, just an FYI.

But now I am looking at the 200gig 7200rpm Hitachi with drive level encryption. But I sure want a bigger faster drive NOW! Must..... hang...on!
Hmm...Drive level encryption. I have sensitive data on one of my laptops, but that's what 256 bit AES encryption is for.

Good read, I run an HDD password so I am relatively safe so now I have to decide if I want to wait for 40gig more and the drive level encryption or jump on the 160gig now.
HDD passwords are easy to bypass
