Disappointed In Apple! Here's Why.

Thread Starter
I've had a problem with my MBP and tried to find an answer to fix the problem by posting on the Apple discussion forum. After not getting any response to resolve my problem, I found that I am not alone. There are many others who have this same issue.

Finally, I posted a message that I was very disappointed with the support that I've received on this issue. The next day, my posting was DELETED from the forum by the "host" whoever that is.

So I posted a message the next day (yesterday) saying I was disappointed that the host removed my posting. Today, that post was removed.

How sad. It appears that Apple is white-washing the postings on their discussion forum to ensure that they do not reflect badly on their products.

I can't believe that Apple would stoop to something as underhanded as this. I'm considering selling my Macbook Pro and going back to a Windows PC after 3 months because of this.

Here is a link to a page on their discussion board showing that my postings were removed by the "host"

For the record, my issue is that the Airport Status no longer shows in the menu bar. Yes, it's enabled in the system preferences, but it shows that the Airport is not on, when in fact, it is. This makes selecting different wireless networks when going from location to location very difficult.

I can understand your frustration. if its any consolation those forums are not moderated by apple employees and the people who do moderate are probably not even paid by apple to moderate the site. I have a feeling from what you are saying that its probably applefanboi's that are trying to clean up their forums.

Also a day isnt very long to wait for a reply dpending on the forum of course but yeah.

Not quite sure what could be the matter with your issue i'd suggest opening disk utility and try repairing permissions then again that may not be the fixer I'll ask around though.

best thing to do is just be patient with forums its not like tech support where if someone doesnt help with your problem they get fired.

I hate that you're having issues; I started dual-booting the OsX x86 version with Vista and when I started out I didn't have any wireless support or the Airport options. Once I edited a few plist files and remade the kextcache everything started working beautifully. I'll find what I did becuase if it worked for the Hackintosh surely it will work for a real Mac. If we can't get it working I'd be interested to hear what you'd sell it for because I'd love to hack around on one. I'll post back shortly... JW --EDIT-- Found it: below is what I did to activate the Airport interface once the OS saw the card. Since you can use the card it seems like this could work for you as well... ---BEGIN Instructions from Mac forums Open terminal Type: sudo nano /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist You want to edit these lines: <key>BSD Name</key> ---> <string>en0</string> (Change the en0 to en1) <key>IOBuiltin</key> <false/> <key>IOInterfaceType</key> <integer>6</integer> <key>IOInterfaceUnit</key> ---> <integer>0</integer> (Change the 0 to 1) If they are already set to en1 and 1, then that's not your problem and I don't know how to help you.. But for me, then when I rebooted, I was able to configure AirPort in a snap. BTW, in nano, to exit and save the file, just press Ctrl-X, then if the filename printed there is correct, just press enter. I'm on a standard PC keyboard, so Ctrl may be something else on a mac keyboard, I have no idea. ---END Instructions from Mac forums Check these settings and if they are set to >0<, set them to >1< and hopefully this will activate the interface. Again, to write out the file in nano hit Ctrl+O (I think this writes out the file), hit enter to save, and then hit Ctrl+X to exit. Once you change the plist file you may want to go ahead and open Disk Utility and repair the disk permissions on your OS drive. Let us know how it goes.

That reminds me of my technical support nightmare with a netgear network storage drive. The phone tech support people could barely understand english (it took me 3 minutes to telll them how to spell "Dan") and were completely clueless to my problem. So i decided to try the forums because people in forums tend to be more helpful then tech support. When tried to log ingot the forums i got this message, "Due to being an overwhelming success, the forums have been taken down." That obviously makes no sense. I found a cached version of the forums though, and it was nothing but complaints like mine and complaints about it completely destroying hard drives. It must have been hurting business so they took it down due to its overwhelming success. I wouldn't be supprised if apple was whitewashing their forums. And dont ever buy a netgear network storage drive

For what it's worth, I don't know of any major company that won't delete posts willy nilly because it might make them look bad.

yes, the apple threads can be moronic about negative feedback from users. and yes, i gather it is from the uber-users/fanboys who have a say in what's posted. very stupid imo.

I posted regularly on the Apple Discussions forums for a couple of years, and still visit occasionally. While they can be a wealth of information, I've found them to be much too restrictive, and I think this is what you experienced, jjfcpa. Don't take it personally - they often delete posts that are not asking/answering a specific tech question.

As an aside, some of us used to hide personal comments back and forth in our "tech" answers to others, since fraternizing was frowned upon. There are some great people there who should be paid by Apple for giving great tech support.
