Alienware Area-51 m5790 vs. HP Pavilion dv9000t

Thread Starter
I am having trouble deciding which type of laptop I get. Most laptops on the market are currently advertised as “Multimedia machines” or “gaming machines.” I wanted to have a laptop which will be able to perform both efficiently. I will be using the laptop mostly for watching videos, downloading and listening to music and graphic design. I will also be using the laptop in college so I will be carrying it everywhere but I have already decided that a 17 in notebook will be fine. I wont really be gaming too much on the laptop but I do occasionally play 1 game every two months. The games which I usually play usually do not require high-end hardware (last games I played on PC was GTA San Andreas or Hitman Blood Money).

What I am unsure about is about what laptop to get. The laptops I have looked at either had a nvidia geforce go 7600 or ATI Radeon X1800. I wanted to know which is better

The laptops I have looked at are the HP Pavilion dv9000t, Alienware Area-51 m5790, Dell Inspiron E1705 and Toshiba Qosmio G35-660.

HP Pavilion dv9000t
Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 (2.0GHz/4MB L2Cache)
17.0" WSXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1680x1050)
512MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600
2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
240GB 5400RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive
HD DVD ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer
TV Tuner
Price: $2,521.99

Alienware Area-51 m5790
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7600G Overclocked to 2.66GHz 4MB Cache 667MHz FSB
17" WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 LCD
2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM
160GB Serial ATA 1.5Gb/s 5,400 RPM w/ 8MB Cache
8x Dual Layer CD-RW/DVD±RW w/ Nero Software
256MB ATI Mobility™ Radeon® X1800
TV Tuner
$2,889.00 ($2,458.99 with Core 2 Duo 7400 Processor)

Is the ATI Radeon X1800 better than the Nvidia Geforce Go 7600?
Which laptop is a better value?
How much faster is the Alienware’s processor (7600T) than the HP’s?
Which laptop should be a better overall laptop considering multimedia and gaming?

Thank you.

Take a look at the thread in my signature, it's a bit outdated but the 17" recommendations are still good.

I tried to find anything on hp's site to confirm that the 9000 had dual-channel memory after finding out that my dv8000t was dual-channel-disabled. He11, hp couldn't even be bothered with answering my email inquiry. That in itself was enough to help me decide I was through buying hp.
