How to Change my Vista Ultimate OEM to a Retail

Anybody know how I would go about doing this? is there a number I can call to change my Vista Ultimate System Buliders DSP/OEM to a Vista Ultimate Retail, or Full or Upgrade License? The OEM will not install on my GW Notebook, due to Vista Drivers Issues, that I cannot FIX during the Vista Install (I get a Black Video Screen after the 1st Bootup and it JUST HANGS THERE) I tried to do the disable WVGA FIX ,and the Command Prompt "devmgmt.msc" to get into the device manager, but didn't have any luck, I have downloaded all of the GW Vista drivers, but, cannot install the Gateway Vista drivers to fix this problem, I KNOW there's a way, or some kimda workaround to install this OEM version of Ultimate, but, I'm at a loss as of what to do? Microsoft WILL NOT give me any support, due to this being an OEM, and GATEWAY WILL NOT help me with this, cuz they don't know what to do? any Ideas that anyone has are VERY WELCOMED!!! I was thinking about buying a Vista Home Basic Upgrade Retail DVD ($99.00 US) and then upgrading to Ultimate that way, will this even work?

There should be something equivalent to safe mode in Vista that you can use to get in to find the problem.

I don't think so, the reason why I say this is cuz I took my GW Notebook to a Repair PC Shop and Paid them to try and trouble shoot and install DSP/OEM Vista Ultimate, and after 2 days and 10 hrs. THEY COULD'NT even install this? and they charged me 80 bucks for this (the Labor to do this) the funny thing to all of this, is my GW Notebook is a Vista ready notebook, but they the repair shop techs told me, that it is NOT, and that I should buy Vista Home Basic, (Maybe that Repair PC shop were just a bunch of IDIOTS and didn't know anything about Vista other than putting it on a New Barebone PC) but, according to Gateway, I can run ANY VERSION of Vista, even Gateway doesn't know WHY Ultimate won't install? However Gateway did inform me that "At this time we DO NOT SUPPORT Vista Ultimate" only Vista Home Basic & Vista Home Premium will run on your MX6447 Gateway notebook at this time, so, that could very well be the problem I'm having with Vista Ultimate not finishing the install, at this point I'm very reluctant to go out and buy a version of Vista just to try and install this Ultimate version (talk about throwing good money away) this is UNREAL....... I will be getting Vista Home Premium from the Xpress Upgrade I sent in when I bought this notebook back in NOV 2006, do you think I should just wait for that to arrive, and then just try and install that, then upgrade with that DSP/OEM Vista Ultimate? maybe it will work that way? anyone know if this will work? any ideas?

If you can get Vista Home Premium to install, I have my doubts since Ultimate won't install, you will be able to upgrade to Ultimate. The reason I have my doubts about HP installing is because Ultimate and HP are the same except for a few extra features available in Ultimate.

2 weeks ago (before I got a hold of the Vista Ultimate DSP/OEM Version, I downloaded (from MS digial Locker's Market Place) Vista Home Premium's Upgrade Version for ($159.00 US) It worked fine, but it was a retail upgrade and not an OEM, so, I played with it for about a week or so, then I returned it? because I didn't like the fact that I didn't have a DVD, so everytime I wanted to ,transfer it, or whatever, I had to re-download it all-over-again, so this got kinda old to keep doing that, so I uninstalled it w/ a letter of Destruction, and after about a week was givien a full refund, now I wish I didn't, but that's life, if I still had VHP I could have upgraded to Ultimate with that? Now I'm stuck w/ a nice looking DSP/OEM Vista Ultimate COASTER, that won't install on my notebook..........so, I suppose I',m SOL, and unless I build a New Desktop Rig, to test it out, I will Never know if it will install, so, Again I'm SOL, so, I'm not very happy with Vista right now & I'm sure you can understand WHY I feel this way....... what a waste........

You can integrate your specific drivers into Vista using vLite. Google it or hit the forums over at msfn.org for more info on how vLite works.

Yeah I tried the vLite followed it to a tee, integrated all the Gateway Drivers for Vista, made an ISO image, then burned that to a DVD-RW,did a Clean Install with that Vista Ultimate ISO, it booted up fine, but, after 3 trys, it still didn't work, my guess here is that Gateway has my BIOS so locked down, that, the only thing that will work on my GW Notebook is a Vista Home Premuim Upgrade, so, the DSP/OEM DVD I have, has to be different than the Upgrade, it has a Retail Product Key, but the OEM must be a very strip-down-version without even the basic driver support needed to install, unless I'm WRONG about this? I should have kept the Retail Version of Vista Home Premium, and now I don't have it anymore, What a stupid costly mistake this has become, I'm still very unhappy about having a very expensive Vista Ultimate COASTER, that I CAN'T even use on my GW Notebook, I don't want to spend any more money on this problem, and NOT get this issue FIXED............................I know this OEM DVD works, but, it just won't work on my GW Notebook, maybe I could sell this for half-price, but, I doubt ANYONE would want to buy it............unless they were building a brand-new-Rig to install this on..............

I tried the VLite again, and everything went fine, but after the 1st Boot the install FAILS and JUST hangs with a Black screen, then when I re-boot it gives me a BSOD Memory dump error, and when I go back to XP, it says "This version of Windows may not be compatiable with your system check Microsoft's website for capatibility" the funny thing is, last week I ran Vista Home Premium Upgrade and it worked just fine, so, I don't know why I would get that message after going back to XP when all else fails..........I'm confused as to what to do, ANYBODY got anything different I can try? Maybe I should just give up and SHIT CAN Vista Ultimate..........

Have you upgraded you BIOS and such on your Gateway? If not do so. You may want to try a good Gateway forum as I am sure someone else with a Gateway would have that problem.

Problem SLOVED it was incompatiable RAM, even tho it worked and gave no errors in XP MCE 2005, so, I went back to basics,(took out 1GB of the Ram I bought 2 weeks ago, and replaced that one with the 512MB that shipped with my Gateway Notebook, VISTA didn't like that RAM, so, that's why it didn't Install & Failed , I called the place I purchased the incompatiable form ,and they were more than happy to send me the correct ones (Gateway Uses Samsung, Crucial, and Hynix chips) so, I got an RMA # to return the incompatiable 2GB's and after they get the old stuff back, They'll Promptly send me out 2 Samsung 2GB's that are sure to work in my Gateway Notebook, at least I hope they do, anyway got Vista Ultimate up and running, but, with only 1.5MB of DDR2 RAM, but it seems to run fine with just that, the 2GB's will be a lot better I'm sure, when I get them.........so ,All is well, other then a few more features, I can't see any real differnce between Vista Home Premium & Vista Ultimate? ALWAYS check your RAM, just cuz it works in XP it may not be compatiable w/ VISTA, I found this out the HARD WAY!!!!
