Sager 9750 With X2 4400+

Thread Starter
I upgraded my CPU from a 3500+ 64 to an X2 4400+, my temps and everything seem fine (they do go up to around 50C under load) but not to an alarming level. But since said upgrade I have had many slowdowns in games, very often. I have a fresh install of windows and still keep eye on the heat, nothing seems wrong there.

Is it possible I need a firmware upgrade to support this CPU properly?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As for temps, 50C is fine. The X2 is rated to perform with no flaws up to 65C. I run my FX-60 at 2.8Ghz with also a custom cooler and my temps were about 49C on Battlefield 2142.

As for the slow downs, do you have an Nvidia 7800 GTX? Mine overheats on stock cooling, which is why I built a cooler. On stock cooling after about 15 minutes, I would experience massive framerate drops that occur in and out every few seconds. It is the video card downclocking itself when it reachs 80 or 100C to protect itself. That could be your issue, especially if you have a 7800. The 7900 series seems to not have this problem, at least not as much. It will be very noticeable if the front left part of your laptop gets very uncomfortably hot.
