Vista and Memory Card reader problems

I have vista running on my m5550 (see sig), and I can not get the memory card reader to work at all. I've looked quite a few places for drivers for the card reader, but can't find any.

Anyone know of an alienware, or generic, driver to get the card reader working?

Thanks guys!

That's strange, mine seems to work just fine. All I did was install the drivers from AW's site and did the BIOS upgrade. Everything is working as it should. I'm just waiting for AW to come out with better Go 7600 drivers.

Is there a setting in the bios to enable or disable the memory card reader?

Which driver? I do not see a driver listed for the card reader anywhere on the alienware website, under the m5550 section.

UPDATE:

I still can not get the memory card reader to work in my m5550 with Vista. Everytime I insert a SD memory disk, Vista says "searching for drivers for your USB storage device." Of course, after 30 seconds or so, it says it can't find any and to insert the disk that came with my device, or browse my HD for the location of the drivers. Clearly, this is NOT a USB storage device, and I do not know how to tell Vista this.

I can not find any memory card drivers available for the m5550 on the Alienware website. And yes, I do have bios 2.06W

Any ideas?

Can someone with a working card reader and vista please post a screen shot of their device manager, I would like to see what Vista "labels" a built in memory card reader.

Thanks guys.

Sky,

these is how the device manager should look like

The card reader controller is the <<USB Mass Storage Device>>

this is how the <<USB Mass Storage Device>> looks on teh device manager maybe try to reinstall the chipset drivers, or force windows to use the same driver as describe below in case is not the same

Still can not get it working. On my device manager, there are NO portiable storage devices listed. The category "Portable Devices" is not even listed at all.

Maybe this is part of the problem: On my m5550, I formatted the drive and did a clean install of Vista Ultimate, not an upgrade from XP. So none of the original XP drivers were present in the first place.

Any ideas on how to make Vista "see" a portable storage device, and what driver I can force it to run when I insert the memory card for the first time (I do not have a memory card with me right now to test it)

UPDATE:

Got the card reader working. Method:

I kept inserting a memory card, and when the "searching for drivers thing" popped up, I forced it to look in \Windows\System32. And Vista would pick a random driver, or an educated guess. Took about 5 tries, and eventaully it picked one that worked. However, when I insert memory cards, both SD, and Micro SD, it lists them under Disk Drives (In Device Manager)

I still have no Portable Storage listed in Device Manager, but at least I can now read memory cards again.
