There will be no mobile version of the 8800. Some DX10 cards may come out later this summer, or in Q3.

may be, never know though...sneaky fellas those hardware developers are.

While no one can say for certain that an 8800 gtx Go will be released or not, i can say with certainty that the chances are extremely low for a few reasons. 1. They are based on 90nm process, which carries way too much heat already in a desktop...they push 70-80 in a desktop, with plenty of room and airflow. 2. Second gen NVidia DX10 cards are 80nm process, so they are already moving away from the G80 core. 3. NVidia will be moving to 65nm processing shortly, and i highly doubt they would invest time and money into a mobile G80 chip with 90nm tech when 65nm tech is right around the corner.

I am calling BS. on my 1710 Supreme Commander was quite a test. Mabey with everything on low and low res, but that game is extremely cpu bound.

the supreme commander demo really does not take up as much of the system as the full version. at least, that's how it seemed for me, but then again, dual screen (1920x1200 + 1280x1024) is a bunch to display, especially with larger maps and more computer players.

I think the G80 (8800) based GPU's max out at 768MB each, not 1GB as the thread heading.
The G81 series (8900) will probably get higher RAM capability (1GB+?)
There migh not even be a go8800 yet, may have to wait for the go8900 with a smaller die and less power use.
With SLI go8900's with 1GB each the GPU will have nearly more RAM than the CPU

Time will tell, there are already some mobile GPU's in the drivers but not a go8800 or 8900.
We might see a go8600 first as this will have a more reasonable power usage.

NVIDIA_G84.DEV_0407.1 = "NVIDIA NB8P-GS"
NVIDIA_G86.DEV_0425.1 = "NVIDIA NB8P-SE"
NVIDIA_G86.DEV_0428.1 = "NVIDIA NB8M-SE"

Nice find pieter. Yes, time will tell

Evidently nVidia wants the 85/8600 to take over what the 7900/7950s were, so they might very well not be slouches.

I think they will be close in performance in DX9 and handle DX10 games to boot.

I think it is better to wait for Santa Rosa + 8800GTX it is more futureproof than the actual XPS.

santa rosa wont come out with the go8800gtx.... the go8600 will be likely out with it but the go8800 wont. look for high end laptop video cards in Q3 of this year. there is no such thing as "futureproof" for laptops xps or otherwise and thats a fact.

of course all of that you would already known if you had read the thread.

Chill out dude. Maybe he was just saying it's better to wait til then.

Gotta side with fidget on that one, it was mentioned several times, and at least once by me, that the chance of a mobile G80 is extremely low. If he had read the thread he would know that, but perhaps he made a typo or did not mean 8800gtx, or meant DX10 in general. Hes from Columbia so his english may not absolutely perfect.

Technically speaking, nothing will be futureproof until the advancement of technology stops. I suppose future resistant may be better a better term. That being said, hardware is getting pretty far advanced these days compared to software, so i think we will reach a point where computer hardware will start to last much longer, ie quad core CPUs are available, yet software is just starting to take advantage of dual core, DX10 compatible video cards are available, but Vista + DX10 is nowhere near optimized, and DX10 games are still in the works. Console gaming also for example, the console is released with top end hardware, and it takes developers years before they can fully use and optimize it.

You can honestly call whatever you want. I have played the Supreme Commander Demo a few times now at 1920x1200 with everything turned up; with no problems. (other than a lot of heat)

If I had a cam corder, I'd record a game.

Which companies do you guys think will be the first to get the nVidia 8000 series? I'm thinking Dell, HP, Clevo, and Samsung. How much do you think mid-tier 8000 series would go for (nVidia GeForce Go 8600)?

I would count on Dell being among them. Note that Clevo is an OEM, who makes notebooks for a number of companies.

No clue, but why would anyone care? It is extremely unlikely they would be of any use at all in existing notebook models. In other words, you will not be able to upgrade your current laptop to one of these.
post #38 of 65
I would wait. Spending that much money on a laptop I would wait a little bit, it would have a lot more value and you could use it longer + save money in the long run.

ATI is saying that they'll release all models of the R6xx on the 65 nano process, including their big dog. It's been much delayed with the latest rumours indicating a May release so you may have to take that with a grain of salt.

Still, it bodes well for powerful DX10 gpus in laptops by summer.

Hey Guys (n gals?). Just been looking about for mobile benchmarks because planning to get one soon (desktop replacement, to play battflield 2 mainly). Just wanted to mention http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=38250.
Any thoughts?
as most people ive seen on the forums (great btw!) not sure whether to wait...

Edit: not trying to post new thread btw, the article is about mobile 8800 notebook - my bad.
