recommend good carry case?

Hey all,

I just got my R50P and was wondering what do you guys suggest for a good carry case? I have a Swiss Army case for my A22p and was tempted to get another one for my new one. But wanted to see if you guys suggest anything good out there than the Targus or Kensington brands.

For my current POS and my nc6000 (as soon as it ships) I have an OGIO JackPack. Its a relatively small bag, but it has quite a lot of space to hold things along with the laptop. I have an older version which holds 1320 cubic inches... I think the new version holds 1400? You'd have to check their site, http://www.ogio.com , they also have a few other bags, like a backpack. And if you're looking for a place to buy, I got mine through http://www.ebags.com. Hope this helps.

The best case I ever had was my Tumi, but it unfortunately was stolen along with the laptop it was protecting when some thug busted out the window of my car. I just replaced the laptop with a Fujitsu N5010 and then bought a Briggs & Riley case for it. It's not as luxurious as the Tumi, but was about 400.00 less
I have a lot of Briggs & Riley luggage, and they have the best warranty in the business. It matters more for general luggage than with a laptop case, because if your case gets crushed, it's likely that the machine inside will need some work. Who then cares so much whether the bag will be replaced for free. Anyway, it's certainly a step above the Targus or Kensington bags if you don't mind dropping 200.00 on a case.

The best bags for laptops are "Crumpler" notebook bags. This "over the shoulder" type bags come in 3 sizes and 6 colour combinations. They have waterproof lining which keeps the contents (lappy) safe/dry even in heavy rain. They have removable shoulder pads and adjustable shoulder straps with third leg stabilizers and internal and external zip pockets.

These are made and sold in Australia... so where you can buy one in america is beyond me

See here for pictures.

I bought one of these babies back in 2001, and still use the same bag even when I'm not carrying my laptop around just cos crumpler has a good reputation here and they are stylish bags. It really is waterproof, I've ridden my bicycle in heavy rain with my lappy on my back and everything was perfectly dry when I arrived. Highly recomended.

I bought a Booq BP3 backpack for my notebook. http://www.booqbags.com

Very sturdy, comfortable, and lots of pockets!! You gotta love pockets!

Anyone have any thoughts on the APC bag? I saw it comes with a neat power supply that plugs into both home and car adapters, feeds your lappy and a little usb power only hub you can plug usb peripherals in to charge, like dell phone, pda, etc.

Charger looks cool. Bag, I have no idea.

APC bag

I saw a small write up on that bag in one of the computer mags. I THINK it was the new Mobile Computing magazine, and they only gave it a mediocre rating. I don't remember what they didn't like. If I find it again, I'll post what I read.

I'd recommend the APC Travel Power bags. They are available at CompUSA and the best bag I have ever owned.

This worked for me

I like to tote my notebook around with all its peripherals, plus half my office. This I wasn't able to do comfortably with the back-pak style bag that came with my G1 notebook. I researched this to death, probably spent 3 hours looking at notebook cases (money was never a consideration..I wanted what worked best for me regardless). Found a bunch of high-priced exotic bags that just didn't have the pockets/compartments/containment I was looking for. Ended up back where I started..with Targus. I found a Universal Top-loader that comfortably and safely stored my wide-screen 15" notebook, plus many pockets for cables, mouse, phone charger, files, pens, battery packs, digital camera, cologne, etc..etc...etc. I am extremely pleased. If I could have found the same storage-type in a leather it would have been more pleasing..but other than that this bag was perfect.

Also, I couldn't not comment on this quote:

Why in the world would someone spend that sort of money on a case? Unless it came with a pitbull, and James Bondish security system that fragged anyone whose fingerprint didn't match the owner...plus for that sort of jack..there would have to be an accompanying super-model that would stroke your nads whilst you worked/played on your notebook (which, depending on the notebook, wouldn't be as costly as the case you carried it in). Just don't understand the rationale here folks. Guess it's the same logic women use when dropping 4 or 5 large for a purse. Either that, or someone is just trying to be perceived as a snobbish luggage aristrocat.
