hi all, im in need of a new harddrive but im suck on making a decision. Should i either get a 120gb 5400 speed or a 80gb 7200 speed.. I like the 120 size but would i really see a big difference in speed between the two ? oh this is for a m1210 ... thanks

how bout the 100gb 7200 rpm? thats what i have and its fast

I believe he meant that they are both the same price. I went for the faster 80gig 7200rpm. I use an external hdd for safe keeping big files.

If price of 120G 5.4k and 80G 7.2k is same, then I'd get the 80GB disk; performance difference is noticeable, however don't expect huge speed improvements.

Since you already have a 80GB you can use that with an external USB enclosure unit for additional storage.

Go for speed!

As others have said.... the speed difference is there but it is not significant (the higher areal density of the 120GB drive helps even it out a little). So just ask yourself what you need more... an extra 50% storage space or a little extra speed.

Thanks all, i am going to go with the 100GB 7200 speed. So i will have the speed and a pretty decent HD size. So i put my 80gb up for sale, do you all think 55 dollars is a decent price ?

$55 is a very good price if you can sell it at that, considering a new 80GB 5400 is only $59 at newegg. However if you can't sell it for a good price then better use it as an external storage device. Cos there is no such thing called "too much hard disk space"

It took me the longest to decide whether I wanted a 80 gb 7200 rpm or a 120 5400 rpm... I eventually buckled and went with Speed over Size. Too my dismay I found out after purchase the damn harddrive is freaking SATA. The transfer rate of a SATA at 5400 RPM is nearly 3 times better of a 7200 RPM 133 connection found mainly in desktops older than two years ago. I really wish I had gotten the 120 GB now. I installed a ton of old games... Vista demands at least like 10 Gigs free on your hard-disk. I ended up having to uninstall... and move my save games externally. I hate myself.
