A friend of mine uses his PC's for years and needs a quality laptop that will last him a few years (4-6) without becoming too far out of date. He was all set to purchase a fully loaded Dell E1505 when we found that there is no good port replicator (at least not on Dell's site) that will quickly allow him to plug in power, video, keyboard, mouse, audio and probably USB ports. The Kensington product has poor reviews because it doesn't offer Vista support, and even if it did it doesn't seem to offer battery charging.

So, I just built up a Gateway NX570XL which seems to offer all of the above features but again lacks a port replicator/docking station option that I can find. The one good docking station they offer does not list this laptop as a compatible product. Additionally a concern is the confusion of them claiming their WSXGA+ is 1440x1050 - that seems non-standard.

Any recommendations. He will spend a good bit of time producing documents and presentations so wants to be able to set it up quickly and easily for desktop use, but also quickly unplug and head to the couch to sit in front of the TV. I've never had a port replicator for my laptops (currently have MSI's MS-1029) so this requirement sort of has me stumped. Without it the E1505 looks like a great option but if there's a comparable notebook with a fully functional port replicator I haven't found it.

Thanks!
