http://www.engadget.com/2007/03/03/a...orce-goodness/ Hey everyone. This is my first post. Does anyone know if this is coming to the UK anytime soon? Will this be better than the ASUS A8JS? Will the battery life be better? Before this, I hadn't heard of ABS, but I guess they are a good company. This seems to be the only contender to the thin/light with a touch of gaming notebook around at the moment. Anyone heard anymore about this? Any benchmarks known?

Just out of curiosity, have you been paid to make this post? 'Cause I'm getting a strong viral marketing vibe, given that this is your first post, its in the wrong forum, you're posting during off hours, and despite the fact that you've never heard of ABS you have nothing but praise for them.

However, my brain does not always work right in the dead hours of the morning, so maybe I'm reading way too much into this. If this post has been made with good intentions, you have my sincerest apologies.

Anyways, in before thread delete/move.

Not totally sure, but I think he chose Off Topic because he didn't see ABS in the list of brands when he made the post from the news page... Anyway - let's give it a chance in the right section.

Ok.... so, looks like I have some explaining to do! Firstly, no one likes to be falsely accused of something they are not guilty of. But, pride aside, I shall put an end to your missery. But, for the record, i accept your sincerest apologies... 1. I am not, and never have been associated with any computer company. 2. I live in the UK - across the pond, different time zone, (therefore this post is written during UK working hours) and no, its not part of Canada which i was asked when in California on holiday last year. (great state by the way - and no, I have no interest in the benefit of California in that statement either before you ask... 3.Laura is right in the next post after the above was written, as ABS was not available in the list of areas to post. I hope this was not a problem, please do move it if it is. 4. I am in the oil industry - of on a seismic survey vessel 6 weeks on 6 weeks off, so would like a light laptop, capable of playing the occasional game, DVD watching, wireless, lots of ram, vista etc is what i am after. So my questions were asked for a reason. I was very keen on the ASUS A8JS, but this is not available in the UK, and with Tax at 17.5 % is a bit more than I would like to spend. 5. My comment that ABS appears to be a good company is exactly that. I have never heard of them before I saw the news update page of this forum when it said 'thin light gaming notebook', so that opinion is based mainly on about 1 mins looking on their website using a 'search engine'. I again, have no affiliation to any search engine, so you may choose which you would like. I hope this clears things up, and if anyone does have any info on if the laptop will be coming to the Uk, I would still very much like to know. Thanks very much in advance. And I hope the above can now sleep at night.

welcome to NBF, forgive our initial skepticism but alot of companies are trying the viral marketing route now and it tends to start with posts similar to how yours was. honestly no way to know which are from real users like yourself and which are just meant to create a buzz.

personally im not a fan of ABS, i have heard some real horror stories in the past though a look at the recent resellerratings of theirs tends to say that they are improved since the stories i had heard. they still appear to have some difficulties on some things like shipping the correct hardware as ordered and providing warranty service from skimming some of the reviews but on the whole the reviews appear positive. the asus is the better performing machine overall, its is definitely a contender in the category you are looking at and even with the absurd UK taxes is still not a bad price all things considered. you can get an extended warranty through asus that you can access within the UK and without issue which would be a good thing. the downside of buying from a place like ABS which is a boutique is that often outside of the nation in which they are located warranty support often is limited and repairs would require shipping the machine to and back from their facility in their home nation. this usually with the smaller boutiques like ABS is at the owners expense not at the companies. with asus you would not have that issue as the warranty could be accessed and repairs if necessary made within the UK.

The ABS notebook is the Compal HGL30. It will have better battery life but less gaming performance than the Asus A8Js. You can do some comparison shopping on the Compal model, as there are lots of online resellers that have them.

He's obviously a shill for ABS computers.

The delta 5 team has been notified. They're working on tying his ip to name\dob\contact info.
Once we get his contact info we'll triangulate off his cell phone signal and pinpoint his exact geographic location.
Within the hour, 2 blackbirds will be scrambled to deliver laser guided love.
The C-16 reconnaissance satellite will sweep thru the aftermath and if theres anything or anyone left standing we'll send the seals to finish the job.

ABS will rue the day they tried to get free advertising.

Thanks Fidget for that info. Was much appreciated. Looks like the ASUS it is then! Though I have just found out I wont need one till June time now! Annoying after all my research now! Never mind, there might be something better out by then from ASUS in the UK anyway! Thanks Djembe for the compal info, just read a review on that, and yeah, since battery life is not so important (it will be better than my INspiron 8200!) I am thinking the ASUS will do me just great! Oh, and Studio54 person, I am not sure I'll be able to sleep at night, knowing all that wasted fuel is being used on me....
