Acer Customer Service

Thread Starter
Hello!
Just a note to ask if my (hopeless) experience with Acer Customer Services
is isolated or common..
At the end of Oct '04, my girlfriend and I bought an T120 through Simply
computers. A couple of weeks later, it started making a funny noise- it
sounds like a resonating fan, as if the processor cooling fan has worked
loose or somehting. Anyway, after some difficulty getting in touch with
their wretched 0870 number (technical fault stopping them even answering!),
we were promised a visit by an engineer.
Two months on, no engineer- many phone calls to Acer, all of which promise
that we should be called with an appointment within a couple of days. But
it never happens. I know that we get what we pay for, and I didn't really
expect fantastic support for this PC if it did go wrong- but I still think
that 2 months is excessive!
We've now sent a triumvirate of letters to Customer Services, Mike Golpin
(head of cust servs, I think), and the head head of UK ops. Hopefully we'll
get some answers now.
Anybody else found themselves int he same boat? Anybody manages to get
through to a useful human (in the UK)?
Cheerio

Well I got a different situation, but their repair jobs are crap.

I sent in my laptop (TM8204) to them because It would freeze when i used the keyboard.. not power on some times.. and a few other misc problems.

After 10 days i get it back (and spending around 160 on renting a laptop from school..)
instantly i noticed problems, They left some marks BEHIND my screen or some thing, so you can see weird lines, dirt etc.. but it will not wipe away.
There are also a few spots that are very bright/white.. im guessing damaged LCD..
screen was perfect when i sent in, but broken comming back.
I never bothered sending it back because i need it for school, impossible for me to pass any of my classes, as the laptop is a requirement

Well it has since been 2 months, and the POS is
starting to fail starting up, and random freezes... This time not when i use the keyboard.
I also get windows BSOD, at first which i thought was some thing i did (even though i didnt do any thing i dont normally do)
But apparently the error is hardware related (motherboard)

Soooo are acer motherboard that crappy that it breaks this easy?

First time was 4 months after i bought the laptop, and now its been 2 months..
Good thing i got the extra 2 year waranty. I have a feeling it will be sent in every few months.

I just hope this POS lasts me to the end of this semester (end of april) so i can send it in for repairs.

My experience with Acer Customer Service was quite bad. I have resolved never to buy any of their products again.

My laptop power button stopped working within one year of purchace. Since I was within the warrenty period, I called them up for service. I was quite surprised to know that there are no local service centers anywhere in the US and all products have to be sent to their center at Texas at the owners own cost.

I did this under the assumption that repair would be free of cost since the laptop was less than a year old and still under warranty. But they called me up and said that the mother board was water locked and that came under product abuse which was not covered under warranty. The repair charge they quoted was $450.( The cost price was $700 ). I was a very careful user and since this was a 17" new laptop I had taken special care with it, I was 110% sure that there was no incident when the laptop came into contact with water while I used this. I tried reasoning with Customer Service many a time, but I had nothing to prove that I had not misused my laptop.

Later I found that the battery for my laptop model was recalled as defective and that was the reason why the laptop power would not work. When I confronted Customer service with this, they said that since I had paid for repair and the Service request was closed, nothing could be done about this.

So it turns out that they lied to me about the actual problem of the laptop. They said the laptop was water-locked due to mis-use, when the problem was a defective recalled battery. They cheated me $450.

Please dont deal with this company or their products. They are not worth your money, time or effort.

Well, my problem is a little bit different, on August of 2006 I have acquired an Aver 5003WLMi laptop at Future Shop of Younge St, Toronto, Canada. I also paid for the extra warranty (3 years). Now my DVD writer is burning the CDs or DVDs, but it can not read what it burns. The DVDs or CDs that are burned on Acer laptop can be read at any other computer that I have. Well, when I applied for repair, Acer told me that they can´t repair my notebook because I live in a different country that I acquired it (I live in Brazil). This is the proof that you can´t believe in Acer company. When I paid for the 3 year service plan was written that it was an international warranty, so I could have my notebook repaired anywhere in th world.
Well, I will never buy an Acer product anymore, and I am also not recommending anyone to buy.

This makes me so glad my little TravelMate 3252WXMi hasn't had any such problems.
