One of my fans doesnt work and my HDD is cooking

I use I8kFanGUI to control my fan speed, but for some reason my 2nd fan (the one on the right, over the HDD), doesn't spin. It used to work. But after I formatted my HDD the first time, it stopped working. I tried downloading the newest BIOS from Dell's support page, but it didn't seem to work. Is there anything I can do about this?

XPS2

Probably all you can do is buy a new fan and replace the one thats broken.

Not sure if XPS2 uses same fans as I9300, but I see fans all the time on eBay and they're not that expensive. Can't hurt to try replacing yours. It's an easy replacement. Of course if you're still under warranty, let Dell fix it for you.

You may want to open up your laptop and see if dust accumulationg is causing your fans to get stuck. That happened to me when I tried to blow the dust out from the openings. Clump of dust got stuck between the fan blades and the fan was stuck. So, I need to open it up and manually clean it out.

Great advice. I was having heating issues about a year ago. I opened up my 9300 and gave it a thorough dusting as well as applying Arctic Silver to both the CPU and CPU. Temps dropped dramatically.

Well to tell you the truth, both fans on the 9300 are for the cpu and video card, not the hard drive or memory. If you look at the design of housing itself you will see the fan is not over the hard drive. You're hard drive will be warm when it is in constant use access data or running alot of programs. Check task manager to see if you have alot of processes running in the background, that maybe why you have a hot hard drive. Mine is seating at 82F.

My HDD is sitting at 114 all the time according to I8KFanGUI. How hard is it to open up the computer & change the fan?

Ok, so I found the DIY on Dell's site. It doesn't look hard at all. What fan do I need to get? There are a few on ebay that say they're for the XPS, but in the install instructions, it shows a different comp.

Here are a few that I've found
One with audio jacks

This one comes with a cover...?

This one comes with a heat sink

Or this one...different from the rest
