after looking at this a little more that appears to just be the software and not the actual driver...

@jayno20 ic, do you experience locking ups in windows/ start up? i believe the previous software cause lock ups in windows.

i DID experience it until i uninstalled the widcomm bluetooth drivers then it all went away. Do you have the widcomm drivers installed?

im not experiencing it now though, i haven't reformat it and i have the widcomm drivers, i did notice it when i installed the new logitech driver provided by dell, but after i uninstalled it everything is working fine.

have you tried installing the dell bluetooth driver instead?
no i havent tried dell bluetooth i dont know if it will work with the 355 module, but i have the windows drivers right now and it clears the problem up for me..

guys. as long as you dont use the facemask/avatars feature of the webcam, you do NOT need the full drivers for the webcam

the actual driver itself is about 1.4MB. its nothing! ive been using just the bare driver so the webcam works and its been amazing ever since!

you can still retain face tracking and brightness settings, etc. and all problems disappear. if you are having problems with the driver, i suggest using just the bare bones files from the big kahuna version you get from dell and enjoy the MUCH faster computer performance (the full logitech drivers SUCK your computers resources dry even when not using the webcam and cause so many probs...)

could you describe how to get down to/install just the 'bare bones' files? I've been disappointed with the bloat of the full version about would be very interested in this.

Thanks for your help srotman!

use your favourite archiving tool to decompress the exe you download from DELL. inside there i cant remember which folder but one of them has your win32 or XP folder (something like that. i dont want to have to download all 132MB again to figure it out)

all you really need to know is that driver files are usually made up of .dll, .sys, and most importantly, .inf files. ull find a directory that has TWO SUBDIRECTORIES with this combinatino of files. keep the root directory with the 2 subdirectories. it all comes in at about 1.4MB (i might have chucked a few extra files that i knew arent necessary so dont shoot me if its actually about 2MB!)

im actually pretty sure ALL the drivers are deep under a bunch of subfolders that starts with a folder names "drivers" so thats pretty obvious.

and i hope you know how to install .inf drivers without the setup.exe and all that stuff.

i know this all sounds REALLY bare and complicated but it works wonders!

can i post a file to the forum? if so ill just post the driver for you

you can install just the driver off the cd included with the m1210... so there isnt really much need for all that...
installing the driver off the CD wont do what I'm trying to describe. in fact it will do just the opposite. HOWEVER you can use the driver off the CD as the source and decompress it to get the core files necessary

all im trying to get at is that ive learned over many years of doing this that 99% of the files that come with drivers are BULK!!! with my M1210 i have managed to get ALL of the LATEST drivers, that includes chipset, graphics, modem, NIC, BT, wireless, webcam, sound, etc. ALL into a mere 50MB! and everything works PERFECTLY AND SMOOTHLY and most importantly with NO TOUBLES.

so if you can and know how, just use the most needed files from the UBER-bulky logitech drivers and watch ur troubles disappear

go to www.yousendit.com and upload ur drivers for us to use if it fixes the hanging on boot. If these are as good as u say they are that would be great

ok. forget posting the file because i trashed my xp drivers BUT i just switched to vista last night and i did the same driver trick i did for xp and it works too! so i can just tell you what files you need if you get the big honking driver from dell its 137MB. double click that file and it will extract the contents to your hard drive. if the standard installation for the driver auto runs, cancel/close it. now go to the folder for that driver. (C:\\Dell\\....) and INSIDE the folder for the driver (Rxxxxxxx) there will be a folder thats actually called "DRIVERS". go into that folder and it has folders specifically for xp and specifically for vista. it couldnt be clearer! then in each one of those it has folders for 32bit and 64bit os's. just pick the right one. and now that you're in there you will come across two folders with wierd names. they're each 4 letters long. i think one started with an S and the other with a V. regardless, just KEEP THE FIRST OF THE TWO FOLDERS (assuming you're listing them in alphabetical order) and the contents are about 4.x MB i think. (i got mine down to a bit less by removing some of the files on my own. basically experimenting what does/doesnt cause problems) and THATS IT! all you need is that tiny little folder! i did that for vista last night (same procedure for xp btw) and you retain all functions of the webcam MINUS the stupid face accessories software to make your face look like a shark or whatnot. hope that helps...

how is that different from just installing the driver off the cd and not the software?
jayno,

#1. never install drivers from cd's. they are ALWAYS out of date. whenever i buy a new product that comes with drivers i chuck the cd's. printers, computers, whatever. the drivers are ALWAYS old by the time the product is manufactured, sold to you and brought home/to work. so right off the bat, forget the cd drivers

#2. my installation method is different but it is essentially the same set of files you would get from the CD/driver update from dell/logitech. but the difference is that the drivers come so that you have to run a setup.exe file that will install the drivers AND a load of junk. i'm trying to save some wasted space and also the potential for problems (when you use the standard installation program that comes with the drivers i find it ultimately causes problems in the end) so im just suggesting that my method of manually selecting the files to use will get the job done while avoiding potential problem

.... so. for the SECOND time. my method is NOT different from installing from the CD. just more efficient. you choose which way you want to install, but i know that on my machine, i have NO services or programs running at startup or in the background at all times for the webcam, unlike when you install off the CD/standard setup.exe from dell.

if i install just the driver nothing loads with windows... im just looking to get rid of the hanging at boot... and u say using this way u have no hanging?
