3450 highlight/copy paste & usb 2.0

Ok I got this usb 120 gig hard drive here, plug it in and xp says this device COULD be faster if I connect it to a 2.0 usb port, I thought this laptop HAD usb 2, is there something I need to turn on or do to enable it or is this hard drive just funky?

How can I check to see if my usb ports are 2.0?

Also while using my laptop, if I am on a page and want to copy some text or a link etc, I am tapping once with the touchpad to get the blinking icon where i want it, then i am pushing and holding the left click button and using my finger on the mousepad to highlight the text i want, then i have tried both just hitting control then c (to copy) and control/c at same time (to copy), even before hitting those i have tried one more quick tap to sort of stop the highlighting from grabbing other stuff (hard to explain but if i don't tap it it grabs a bunch of other text), well no matter what way I do this even if i repeat the control c method, then I go into a new browser or word doc or email and try to do the control v (paste) it doesn't work 90% of the time!!!

How are you guys doing copy paste and are any of you having these same issues as I am with the 3450? Using my wifes dell 600m I can do this and copy paste 9 out of ten times, i am LUCKY if i do this on my 3450 and get 1 of 10 times to work...

Thanks for any questions on these two things, i was baffled by the 2.0 usb thing though, the copy thing yeah its annoying, wish I could figure it out too...

USB 2 issue
Try using a known usb2 device on the same port, if no error slow warning then its the drive. If a slow warning occurs again most likely your usb driver is corrupt and needs reinstallation. Also try hdd on another computer to see what happens.

As far as copy issue.....
I usually do double-click-drags for highlighting
that is a quick dbl-click on the second click keep finger help down and u can then drag to highlight text, move icons, draw boxes to select multiple icons etc.
After text is highlighted(no extra clicks at the end are ever required) try rt-clicking, the copy to clipboard from the context menu. then try to paste.
The proper button shortcut is holding ctrl then pressing c. Some programs dont support this properly. same w/ ctrl-x or ctrl-v. But if your still having problems there is a much deeper issue at hand, possible bad hardware, possibly KB driver corrupt, or OS has a corruption.

And Mr. Bill
I have provided you advice many times in the past that went unanswered.
Its frustrating to not know if my advice worked or not, or if you were thankful or not. You dont have to!!! but a coutesy update of success or failure would be appreciated ala you never responded to my help regarding the topic regarding hooking up ur lappie to ur big tv..... cheers

Arch, thanks for the reply many questions I have asked I thought I had replied back on sorry on that, will test these usb ports out with something else usb2 to see what happens, and will follow your way of copy paste to see if that works better than how I have been trying to do it here without much success.

Well I am doing better at copy paste with the touchpad here, what I do is put the cursor next to the text, hold shift and touchpad to the left or right to highlight the text, then once highlighted i tap the left button once, then use cntrl+C and that seems to do it everytime for me now.

I stuck a thumbdrive in last night and did not get that message about how it could run faster, so I am wondering if it is something funky with that portable hd, when I got the drive (wd 120 gig 2.5 size) it had all this stuff installed on it, I am thinking of just wiping that drive CLEAR maybe that preinstalled stuf is causing an issue i dunno...

Beyond the usb thumbdrive and the usb wd hd one works one doesnt in terms of usb2, i cant think of what else here I have that I can test with, altho that hd is what i want to run fast, and that preinstalled stuff doesn't bug me if its wiped so might try that today later...

try running the hdd on another computer, if you get the Slow warning again its the hdd, if not it appears the HDD drivers did not install correctly on your machine.
