Operating Sytem Not Found

post #1 of 6
Thread Starter
I was using my Sager 9880 like normal this morning and everything was fine until it suddently froze up while playing World of Warcraft. I didn't think much of it and rebooted the machine only to be met with an Operating System Not Found error message upon reboot. Whenever I reboot the system I either get this error message or it just stalls after scanning for IDE devices. However, sometimes it will boot up into windows normally and run a CHKDSK (Which the systerm passes) and work completely normally. But when it goes into windows like this it will only last a short time and then freeze and have to be rebooted again. I tried calling the PCTorque tech support number that I have used in the past but it says the number is not currently in service. Can anyone offer any help/advice or another number to call? I have emailed PCTorque using the form on their website and plan to try the number again in the morning. Thanks in advance.

Boot.ini:

[boot loader]
timeout=3
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

the boot.ini has no bearing on the no operating system found. It is generally indicitave of either a failing HDD or controller. try removing and reseating the drive or drives.

How would I go about getting to the drives on a 9880?

The Hard Drive replacement info is on page 7-4 of the manual. I'm pretty sure you can get the manual from the Sager website if you don't have a paper copy. You might also try rebooting from the Windows XP disk and reinstall.
