Game Performance Problems:

Hey there, I'm running a E1705 laptop with a T2600, 7900 GS, and 2mb of RAM.

The problem I'm having is I'm getting bad slowdown in games. Basically while im playing Warcraft 3 the framerate is fine until for no apparent reason it will drop to 20-30 fps for like 3 minutes then go back up to the constant 60 for a few more minutes, then will repeat the cycle of going up and down. Same thing happens when I play CounterStrike:Source, I'll start playing with 100-120fps and then for no reason will start getting 30-40 in the same places.

I thought it was a graphics card issue so I go it replaced from Dell but now I'm getting the same symptoms.

So has anyone else had similar issues, or does anyone know what a possible cause of this is?

I also upgraded to Vista to see if that would fix it. It didn't and I moved back to XP with a fresh format and it was giving me the same problems right after installing all the correct drivers.

Anyway, thanks a lot if anyone can help me out with this extremely annoying issue.

well, obviously, it's because you only have 2mb of ram... just kidding. anyway, could it be a problem with the temperature of the card? it could be that it's getting too hot or something and the performance is dropping due to that, but then the fan kicks in and cools it enough that the temperature is in a better range and the performance is back to "normal" but then it heats back up when the fan has backed down a bit.

I'm pretty sure it's not because I've played with fans set to default and fans always set to high with the same symptoms.

Maybe theres a problem with your cpu not throttling when it needs to be. Keep it running on max and see if that fixes it.

I had the same issues and using i8k fan gui I forced fans to max speed and problem solved.

Also, clean your fans

Yes I agree that this is Temp related most likely the CPU is throttling down because its not getting proper airflow.
