Any updates on m9750 release dates

I was just wondering if anyone has heard any updates regarding the release date of the m9750 Core2Duo machines. Also, are their any announcements of updates mALX machines? Seems like it would be strange if the rest of the notebook lineup was faster then the flag ship machine.

I was reading the NBF tour through the factory and it said something about the machine still a ways away. Just wondering if there were hard dates yet.

Hammer, whats the delivery date on your order? (laugh) I KNOW you ordered one! That Matte Black has been haunting your dreams hasn't it?

Unfortunately not. However, I would not be suprisd to have them release the 9750 not long after nvidia releases the stable SLI drivers for Vista.

NVidia is still sorting out SLI drivers for Vista? Sheesh, the 9750 is probably further away then I thought.

I haven't heard anything solid, just the comments in the NBF article that it's still a few months away...

And yeah, the black case is haunting me, but I'm probably going to stick with the m9700 for a while. It's doing fine, and I need a new desktop first...

I know what you mean. I got all these parts to build a quad core tower with two 8800's in SLI, a liquid cooled case and all the trimmings. It was an unmitigated disaster. Two bad motherboards in a row from EVGA (I knew I should have used the Asus Striker), the SLI wasn't configuring properly, it was a pain. Im thinking about boxing up the parts and calling Alienware for a 7500 or an ALX machine instead. I've never owned their tower, but the m9700 is rocking my world. Love the media center stuff...some of the best work Ive seen come out of Microsoft.

What tower are you looking at Hammer? 7500? ALX?

Hmmmnnnn...I keep waffling between building my own desktop or just ordering from Alienware. Your story doesn't give me much confidence, given my limited mechanical abilities

I'm pretty sure I just want one card, but the ALX is tempting. Need to get more info on the differences between the liquid cooling options for the regular 7500 and ALX versions.

Annual bonus time is a few months away, so I'm not in any hurry.

Come now, I need others to build systems so that I can cheat and just do a slightly downgraded copy of what either Shazza or Hammer does cause I only want to go for the 8800gts 640mb card right now with at least a 700w power supply so it can be upgrade to SLI in near future.

So tempting is the forbidden fruit (m9750) that I may just fall prey to my weakness that is extreme mobility factor. Shall the world tremble at the feet or should I say rubber gromits of the m9750?

I wish I knew when I hope Alienware will announce something soon. Actually I am kind of hoping it comes out at the end of May so I can get that new 160GB 7200 rpm Fujitsu hard drive for notebooks.

Hey Shazza, good to see ya on here

I have put quite a few machines together, but for some reason this one eluded me. It shouldn't have but it just did. My friend and I actually both built one (liquid cooled) and had issues all over the place. I think the biggest issue we were facing was defective EVGA motherboards that wouldn't do anything other then trigger error codes. We were using Arctic Silver, and for a while we were thinking we pasted it wrong, but in the end EVGA support read the error codes off the board and declared both boards DOA. Apparently, they are facing a class action law suit over how many of these boards (over fifty percent) are failing.

In the end, I accept that Alienware does nothing but build high performance systems and when we start talking about the complexities of SLI, Liquid Cooled, Quad Core Raid systems, its just better left to them.

Just my .02 cents.

I'll probably go 7500. I've never owned an ALX and I was thinking about it, but I'm not all that excited aboutt he new case. I liked the original predator ALX case quite a bit...

I was looking at Asus mobo's over at Newegg, and there's the striker for $399, but there's another board that looks to be very similar from Asus for $249. It's not advertised as extensively overclockable, but all the comparison points listed are the same...

eVGA has been having all kinds of trouble with their 680i motherboards... They're still fairly new. I understand Asus is having issues also, but nowhere near as bad as eVGA. That's too bad as eVGA has exceptional warranties.

As for the difference between 7500 and ALX liquid cooling, the 7500 is processor only, and is a standard pump/radiator closed system. The ALX cools the processor and vid card(s), and is a peltier cooling system that actually chills the liquid to below room temp.

I have been having a similar dilema - build my own desktop / buy an AW desktop / buy an m9750...
I can build a desktop way cheaper than I can buy one from AW - but I am pretty sure that I would screw up something that complex. Then throw in the allure of the m9750...

I love the mobility of my m9700 and honestly, I am probably going to wait until the m9750 has dx10 cards and give my m9700 to my son...

I have $2000 saved up for a new PC - only about $3000 more to go...

Oh & does anyone know who is going to be building the m9750's?

Arima, just like the m9700.
It's too bad that Arima doesn't get more verbal credit for what they have been able to acheive with the m9700 chassis. Whoever @ alienware was going out and testing new cases and wound up with that one should be very proud of themselves.

No doubt about that - the m9700 is one heck of a solid laptop. I was kinda aprehensive about it when I found out that arima was going to be the producer - A few of my friends have some 'low' end arima stuff and I wasn't very impressed. I think arima actually saw this as a chance to really accel. Unlike clevo's models, who AW just buys, AW and arima worked together in designing this unit & it would seem reasonable that a company would not want to screw up such an endevor. I'm sure that the m9750 will be event better once it is released - the only thing that might suck on the m9750 is the vista os...

Now THAT really helped me alot. I didn't realize that the ALX cooling system handled the Video Cards as well. I figured the primary differences were minor case changes, over clocking the Q6700, and having a really elite tech put it together. But cooling the video cards is good information.

See why I hang out in here?

I believe Alienware's first laptop, the bluebook meta was an Arima platform.

Due to performance and volume, AW then went with Clevo and Uniwill platforms for the m5500 and m7700 lines.

When Alienware wanted to push the laptop market more, they looked for a manufacturer that could build a laptop to their specs, and Arima was chosen. Alienware sent the specs for the m9700 to Arima and worked with them to develop the system. That's why Alienware is the only US company selling this platform.

I have to say it's the most stable laptop I've ever used, and the performance is simply amazing compared to my desktops.

I'm reallly looking forward to the m9750 to see how much further Alienware and Arima can push the envelope.

Wow HH - you should do a history of AW documentary - You could probably make a bunch of money and generate a bunch of interest... AW might even finance some of it for the free publicity...

Anyways - I agree with your statement about the surprise in performance - these lappys are really closing the gap in desktop performance.

Though they will never fully be able to catch up with what you can do with the space and immobility of a desktop - I am sick of loading up my tower, monitor, peripherials and hauling them to LAN parties. my m9700 is the best - I'm sure we won't be dissapointed with the m9750

the 9705 should be release on 5/23/07
