Looking for opinions on Open Suse - Page 2

what they said.

@twilight.....although i am successfully using PCLOS on my 2 lappies, my desktop (really old dell) had issues. Alpha1 wouldn't even boot. Alpha3 gets through the boot sequence and just before cracking open Xorg...it reboots. MY guess is that it has something to do with the fact that i have 2 video cards in that system (intel i810 mobo-builtin and nvidia 5700 pci). ubuntu (currently running dapper semi dist-upgraded to edgy) has issues with that fact too however and i needed to do some "hacking around" to get it to work. in fact this is what the sequence looked like:
1 -- enter BIOS switch to using the i810
2 -- disconnect monitor cord from nvidia and connect to i810
3 -- boot up dapper livecd, use installer.
4 -- reboot in installed (still using i810)
5 -- use automatix to install nvidia drivers
6 -- reboot, enter bios switch to the nvidia, move cable from i810 to the 5700
7 -- reboot and use.

Martinje, I also have an e1705 and i have run both pclinuxos 2007 and edgy on my laptop. Pclinuxos worked without ANY configuration. It detected my resolution, touchpad, mx510, and pretty much everything else. The only thing that didnt work were my front pannel buttons, but a quick synaptic install of "acme" solved it. Personally pclinuxos is amazing if you are into kde (which it seems like you are considering you were running kubuntu and not ubuntu). My suggestion is for you to follow what everyone else is saying.... stop being a noob.. lol

Thats weird. I installed PCLOS 2007 on my friends computer, some kind of gateway with an integrated GeForce 6150 and a GeForce 7300 and there were no issues.

It does detect a butload of wireless cards though, doesnt it? lol

Funnily Enough, I was there about... oh 12 hours ago. Been home for about 2-3 hours so far tonight, was there for several days for a conference.

But aside from that....

Google is your friend in multiple ways. Googling for ways to set up hardware in Linux will teach you loads, and googling for linux user groups can be great as well.
