1st time gaming notebook buyer, help please

Thread Starter
This is the first time i will be purchasing a gaming laptop. I know what I want as far as the processor and components go. I just have one question, this is purely cosmetic and shouldn't really matter too much. But I really want a gaming laptop with the blue case and I can't find any reputable site that lets you customize a gaming notebook and offers colored cases. I'm definitly not going with Alienware or iBuypower but these are the only 2 that I have seen offer this feature. Alienware is too expensive and their service looks kinda bad. iBuypower has the right price but their ratings are some of the worst I have ever seen. Any links to a website that lets you customize a gaming laptop with case color choices and has good service and reviews would be greatly appreciated!

gentechpc.com offers painted cases on the S96J and Z96J I believe, they only have x1600 gpu's though so that may be a draw back for you.

There are tutorials on how to paint cases so if you have to you could always just do it yourself.

Or you could pay extra and have a 3rd party do it, check out smoothcreations I think they charge around $200-300 to just plain jane paint a notebook....I could be wrong though.

smooth creations now is offering laptops, as well if you buy another brand they will paint it for you any colour you want (for a price)... also check out hypersonic.

please be aware that when you say a gaming notebook you are putting yourself into a category that means you will be paying alot, gaming laptops are not cheap. alienware while it gives you some sticker shock is fairly indicative of the prices that true gaming laptops demand in the market today.

personally, i would go with the 9300 and get the 6800 go

you didn't search well enough

www.xoticpc.com allows you to customize the color
www.hypersonic-pc.com does the same

and like fidget said, gaming laptops are expensive, with the paint job you're going to be paying a lot

so you would buy an outdated machine with a graphics card thats not top end to be a top end gaming machine? and of course not understanding that the poster wanted a coloured laptop not one thats the standard laptop colours.

The one thing I wouldn't do is pick a gaming notebook based on color if you are on a limited budget. The color is great, but, it's the performance that counts.

I also would definitely recommend you go with a video card that is newer than the 6800. It was a monster in its day, but that day is gone if you're buying new.

I have an Alienware ... but that's not saying it's for you. All I suggest is that you seriously compare pricing before making your decision. I'd also look at the Asus and Dell models.

If you go with a Dell, which are usually the best bang for buck, you can get snap covers for most of them. They come in various colors and styles. Of course this would only make the majority of the cover blue and not the inside.

The Dell 9400/1705 is a pretty passable gaming rig for a good price. And you can O/C the GPU to get even better performance.

Here is a blue cover for the 9400/1705:
