Which Dell would you recommend??

Hi, I'm new to the forums, and would like some advice as to which Dell laptop you would recommend. My basic needs will be email, word processing, internet, and some gaming. I'm attending a college like enviorment this year, so I doubt i'll have that much time for games but I would still like the option. Portability will also be an important thing since I don't want to lugging around a heavy notebook around campus. So far, I 've considered the Latitude D610, INspiron 700m, and XPS m140. I'm kind of shunning down now on the D610, because of it's old style chasis, and it's not a Widescreen. I don't need a state of the arts notebook, but I would like somthing that will last me a few years.

Some of the things I would like are:
  • 14.1" or 12.1" screen - not a 15.4 since it would be too heavy...widescreen prefered.
  • a good processor...Intel Centrino M maybe
  • at least 512 MB RAM
  • at least a 40 GB HDD
  • a fairly good graphics card (like i said nothing taht great..jsut good enough to play some games like BF1942, AoE, Call of Duty, and others like that)
  • at least 2 USB 2.0 ports
  • a DVD/CD-R/W combo drive
  • Thin...1.5" or less
  • Lightweight...5.5 lbs or less
  • sturdy and rugged...won't feel like it's going to fall apart eveytime i use itl
Like I said i'm looking at the Insiron 700m and XPS m140. For my needs are there any others (or one of my choices) that you think would be good? For the 700m, do you feel that the screen is too small for normal uses? like word processing, internet, and gaming?

Thanks!!

Well in that size range, you wont have a good graphics card unless you do go with the aforementioned d610, or the xps1210 (which might be out of ur price range).

If you don't care so much about the gpu, then I would say get the 700m, its a very nice little machine.

700m is a great machine, and you can get it at a good price.... I don't know what you are willing to spend, but the xps m1210 is pretty good and you can get it for about a grand through dell outlet. I would suggest getting that, but if its too much money, the 700m is worth it for the power it has.

As previously said, to have decent graphics for a decent price, you'd need a laptop bigger than 14 inch. The E1505 has a 15.4 inch screen but this still is a very portable laptop with pretty good battery life. It is available with a 256MB Radeon X1400, which will run most games pretty well. If you want to do much gaming, I wouldn't reccomend buying a 14 inch laptop.

Thanks for the comments guys! As of now, I think I'm leaning toweards the 700m. I'm not too worried about the games, because by the time I'll have have time to play games I'll probably just upgrade to a more desktop replacement notebook. Right now I just want somthing thats really protatble and still runs programs pretty good.

For more business oriented and toughness. I would go with the Latitude D610 or the D620...
