i9300 and LOTR

Hi. I just recently purchased Lord of the Ring Special Extended Edition. The first 2 discs won't run in my i9300. When I insert the disc, the green light lits. and when I right click on the cd drive, my screen freezes. I also cannot eject the dvd without restarting my laptop.

I have requested a replacement disc set and that too won't work.

In my device manager, the cddvd combo is identified as Philips CDD5236.

Please advise.

If any cd/dvd drive will not read a brand new disc (that isn't broken or deformed) it's probably going bad. If you are still under warranty I would call dell and request a new drive. The drives are very easy to replace and it takes 2 minutes tops. Does this happen with other discs?

I have had the same problem when play troy on my laptop too. When I first play it, I get a picture and sound but if I decide to play it again, I get a black screen but full sound then any other dvd I place in is the same thing. Now if I reboot and try with a different disc, it will run right but troy does the opposite. Some dvds have copy protection that causes this to happen even if you own the dvd. So I do not think you drive is bad but I check to see if it is the copy protection is causing the problem. Damn DRM!!!!!!

Before dealing with the warranty you really should rule out the easy possibilities. I would uninstall all dvd software first. Go to the manufactures website for your drive and get the newest firmare. I had problms with dvd and new firmware was always the solution. Once you install new firmware reload your dvd software and give it a go. All this only takes about 10 minutes so it's worth a try.

try VLC its a very basic yet fully featured media player that also happens to play DVDs without outside codecs. If that doesnt work go to the dell website and download the PowerDVD player codecs and see if they will play in WMP 11. IF both these yield similar problems then its likely your drive that needs to be replaced.
