Losing hard drive space

Ever since I got my new computer a few days ago I've been losing hard drive space. I started out with 212GB of free space yesterday and I haven't installed anything since then. Every time I go back to check, I've lost a few more GB. I left my computer on today and went out for a while, I left with 204GB, when I get back I have 201GB. I don't know if this is normal or what, but can someone tell me what's going on?

Nope, and I'm running Windows Vista.

Disable system restore points, then reboot and re-enable system restore points. Should free up alot of HD space.

memory leak somewhere? I remember hearing something about it under vista...

Windows, especially Vista does a lot of indexing, temporary files and file caching so that takes some space away. Also, restore points and automatic updates take some space.

Edit:

I would also run a hard drive diagnosis to check for file system errors which can report wrong location of files and amount of space. The check can also report if the hard drive is putting out bad sectors, if a hard drive is putting out bad sectors it is time to change it, bad sectors will just become more and more and will lead to bigger problems.

I've already tried checking my disk for errors and disabling system restore, didn't free up anything. When I installed photoshop my disk space went from 201 to 199GB, and when I uninstalled it it stayed at 199. What gives?

Delete your temporary files too? Try something like CCleaner
Also disable any of the desktop searching / file indexing since those will take space too.

Tried CCleaner, only freed up a few megabytes. Haven't tried disabling desktop searching though.

I think the problem is system restore. I left my computer about an hour ago with 209GB of space, I come back with 207 and I check my system restore. The latest restore point was created while I was away. Does system restore really use all that space? I barely have anything on this computer.
