My Packard Bell Easynote F5275 laptop has a battery problem.

It all started with the laptop refusing to start on batteries and the charge LED constantly remaining on red so I thought the battery must be dead as it is about 4 years old now hence I ordered a new battery which I have fitted and apart from the charge LED being green now the laptop will not power up on battery but powers up OK with the power cable fitted although dies as soon as the power cable is pulled. I have left the new battery to charge for several days but it still won't power up on battery, does anyone know what could be wrong or any solutions. Does this laptop have any hidden battery calibration functions hidden in bios as I know some HP laptops have this function ?

Any help would be appreciated guys.
