GOD OF WAR: I already had the hard drive, so the total cost was: $110 (parts machine)+$10 (Shipping)+$41 (1GB Patriot PC3200 SODIMM)=$161. I have three 80GB seagate hard drives that I swap in and out of my HP L2005CL Notebook (Lance Armstrong Special Edition), and somehow the Area51m was able to convince the HP to give one of them up. I'm going to be adding another 1gb of memory to it (cost unknown).
It took about 20 hrs of my time to get it together and fix the damage (soldering, straightening, figuring out how it all went back together, etc). And about an hour or elbow grease with the MacGuires (Auto) paint scrubber and polish to get the swirls out of the clearcoat.
I still need a hard drive tray (bracket) to make this puppy perfect. Right now the hard drive is held in place (and isolated from the drive bay cover) by a small pad of bubble wrap. It works great (even cushions the drive), but I'd prefer the heat transfer properties of a metal bracket. Besides, the bubble wrap isn't "original"!
Thanks for the kind words...
