I currently have an 80 GB drive with XP Media Center and Ubuntu Edgy installed as dual boot. I have a 160 GB drive on the way and I want to install Vista Business and change my XP version from Media Center to x64 (I have a copy of Pro kicking around, and then I can get the free upgrade.) I guess I'm a little unsure about the process of how to do this. I know that I can't just change to x64, so this will require a clean install, but where should I start? Here's my thought process:
format new HD as 100 GB NTFS (2 primary, about 60/40 XP/Vista split), 40 as ext3 (also primary), 10GB as fat32 (for sharing between windows and linux), 5 for swap
then:
install XP pro then upgrade it to x64 (first primary)
install Vista (second primary)
install Ubuntu (ext3)
obviously my sizes will have to adjust a little, as 160 GB isn't actually 160 GB, but is this a sound idea? If it is, how will the boot situation resolve itself? When I installed Ubuntu last time (XP was already there) it took care of everything. Will this happen again? Also, has anyone encountered x64 problems on their M1210? (Will it actually install? I have a Core 2 Duo 2.16 Ghz, and everything I can find says it has the appropriate architecture for it to work.)
Sorry for the moderately disjointed post, I've just got a lot of variables working here and a lot of things going through my head....
