Ferrari 3400 Heats up and Shuts down

Thread Starter
I have a Ferrari 3400 that is about 2 years old.
In the last few weeks it has began to heat up very very hot (you couldn't even touch the end of it),
and then it would just shut down, without warning.
This happened numerous times, even while doing simple tasks such as watching a DVD (It'd take about 10 minutes to heat up and shut down).
I have been using the notebook on a flat wooden desk and I had little legs underneath the laptop to keep it well ventilated.
I also used a Notebook cooling pad for when I used the laptop on my lap/in bed.
Today I bought a can of compressed air, opened up the laptop(removed keyboard) and sprayed in around the fan and wherever else I thought could be the cause of the problem.
I replaced the keyboard etc and booted up, but it still overheated and shut down after about 10-15 minutes.
This is what the inside of the laptop looks like:

The part which seems to be the source of all the heating up is the(heatsink?) part with the little silver 'bar' running diagonally accross it, just under the RAM.
I took off that(heatsink?) and this is what is there:

PS. The fan is working perfectly.
Any suggestions?

Same problem here!
I used to play games continuously for hours on my Ferrari 3400 but now after 10-15 minutes of playing overheats and shuts down!
What should i do?

Problem fixed! It seems that a game i installed recently messed up my cpu drivers. My laptop was running all the time on 2 Ghz and generally was not working properly. As soon as i re-installed the latest drivers for my cpu everything went back to normal!

Wait, what? Reinstalled the drivers for your CPU or GPU? cpu drivers shouldn't exist.

Nevermind, I guess there is such thing as CPU drivers for AMD procs. That's weird if you ask me. I'm an Intel fan, can't you tell? http://www.acerpanam.com/flex/acerdr...n/drivers.html
