what to do with a harddrive

I recently upgraded my 60gb 7200 rpm drive to a 100gb 7200rpm drive and now I need to find something to do with the 60. I'm too lazy to sell it. I already have an external, my m1710 can't hold two HD's. I was thinking of putting it into one of those zen jukebox shells and making an mp3 player. Any other ideas?

I'll buy it off you for $20.

no ty =)
I was thinkin I might make an external out of it. What kind of enclosure do i need? Can I go firewire/usb? I imagine external power is a must?

Any other ideas of what to do with it

Notebook external hard drives do not need external power--they just come with double USB cables in order to get enough power from your computer to spin. To be honest, I think the only things that matter when buying an external enclosure are transfer type (do you want firewire or USB) and price. Personally, I prefer one with firewire because it is faster. Make sure it's the correct size, too (2.5").

another thing to always watch out for is the interface, whether it is parallel or serial, and your drive is serial (or as far as i was aware, the m1710's had sata drives

Oops, forgot about that. Like yee245 said, you'll want to make sure the interface is compatible with your drive.

i believe these drives are SATA and 3.5'' instead of 2.5'' actually. If i go firewire, do i still need 2 free usb ports for power?

If they came out of a laptop, they are 2.5" drives. If they came out of a desktop, they are 3.5". The enclosures come with whatever cords they need to power the drive. I'm not sure if firewire drives also come with a usb cord for power, but I imagine they do.

Just go to newegg, they're are plenty of nice enclosures for SATA laptop HD's that are around $20-30. I used one for a long time until I just ordered a 320gb external drive. The 80gb laptop drive I was using just wasn't big enough. It's a great thing to have around though, especially the laptop ones because they're so small.

for a sata interface, that connects to usb2/esata/both, you're going to actually be looking more at $30-45. sorry, i didn't believe those prices, so i had to go check for myself.

Just go on Ebay & buy a cheap-ass USB 2.5 inch hard drive enclosure. For 10 bucks you'll have a great 60 GB accessory.
I have three of them. They all work great, and have for two years worth of abuse. In fact, notebook accessory wise, they were the best investments I ever made.
