Temperture Spike watching CNN Video

Hello,

I was using my MB tonight doing he usual. Surfing with Firefox with 6 tabs open watching CNN News videos when my temp skyrocketed from 125 F to 165 F during the course of a 3 minute blurb. I have smc_fancontrol 2.0 installed and whenever I watch a video I change the default fan speed from 1500rpm to 3000rpm. That is what it was at when it shot up. The fan speed spooled up on it's own to a whopping 6202rpm. The really weird thing is I walked away from the MB and paused the video and the temp still shot up.

I have since shut everything down and the temp is hovering around 126 F with the fans on 3000rpm. Usually the temps are under 120F with 1500rpm. No updates installed, no added software for a few days, just recharged the battery (from calibration). It has been on battery only for 1 hour, not plugged in.

Anyone have any thing like this before? Any and all help is greatly appreciated

Update

The temps only spike within Firefox. Safari is totally COOL (pun intended). The temps never go over 129 F in Safari with the fans at 3000rpm.

Does the same thing happen when you go to YouTube in Firefox, or any site with a lot of flash animation? It's probably Firefox having trouble with flash.

that happens to me when I use firefox or safari , it will randomly jump to 65 - 75c, not only when watching videos, but maby just a web with flash ads on it. I think kakaze is right.

It appears to only be Firefox. Video seams to do it, however flash based junk appears to aggrevate it. I'm basically using Safari now and have been experimenting with Camino which is much faster but oddly enough it feels like it sucks more battery life. Maybe it's just me.

Camino plays this link with my MBP and the temp spikes to 160, with the fans at 3800.

Safari plays it at 150 F with 3750 rpm.

I think it's the video on the site and It just got the lappy hot so it appeared that the CNN video was the cause.

Check out this application: Menumeters (google it and you'll see) then run thru the video as its streaming you will be able to see CPU usage in the taskbar up top

have you checked the FAQ at http://homepage.mac.com/holtmann/eid...trol2/faq.html

?

i have smc_fanctrol on mac pro quad 2.66, and the faq above said it will take longer for your apple automatic fan settings to go really high if they need to when you have the minimum fan speed set at above 1500 rpm when using smc-fantrol. this could have maybe caused the problems??
