Dell Spare Parts order Problem

I ordered a GeForce 7900 GS for my E1705, and the person at Dell Spare Parts said it was in stock and would be shipped by 03/07/07. The order was placed on 03/01/07.
It's been backordered not once but twice.

I talked to Dell chat to no avail.

Any suggestions?

Well I would imagine the geforce 9700 being backordered for quite some time. All jokes aside its probabaly just a popular item at the moment and spare parts may in fact not have any available.

Whoops, my bad, I meant 7900GS Yea I know that it'd be a very popular item, but it'd be nice if the rep in the beginning said that it was OOS to begin with. I wouldn't mind it if that were the case.

Sometimes the reps dont get an up to date inventory list so at the very moment you ordered one a dealer might have bought the entire stock thus putting your order on backorder. You shouldnt have to wait very long though as I dont see a backorder warning on the config pages so if there requesting more parts it will be a week tops before there inventory is filled again.

Also supply varies per territory so if your outside of the US you might run into longer backorder times its not unheard of to see 2 week long back orders in the UK for example.

I live in the US, California to be exact. It just strikes me as odd that if I built a new 1705 with the 7900GS, I would have gotten it faster than ordering the part through Dell Spare Parts

Not if you think about it. They are obviously going to ship a laptop with the card before the card itself. Besides that the laptops are built in a different location (for the US It's in Asia I believe). I have heard they also try and keep at least a few on hand for people with "Next Day" warranties.
