Alienware- A Joke of a Company

I purchased a laptop computer from Alienware on February 3, 2007. Upon purchase I was told that my custom made computer would be delivered no later than February 13th. I waited and waited tracked my computer online, finally on March 3rd, 1 month later I received the package. The shipping not only took a very long time, but they charged me $99.00 for it, and it took way too long! I personally know that it does not cost that much to ship a computer because I’ve done business with friends and sold them my laptops, for a 3-three day fed ex shipping with insurance it cost only $18.00. This computer cost me under $25.00 to return it, which amounts to about $74.00 that Alienware used to buy the box and plastic for shipping. Now that is either a very expensive box or Alienware is pocketing it.

OMG, thanks for that...

Your life must be very nice if your "issues" were so traumatic you decided to blog about it.

Tonight, my peas were cold. I called the pea company, and they said I should heat them up. What kind of pea company was that anyway that wanted me to heat up my own peas. I tried to return them, but they wouldn't take them cause I opened the can.

And I've seen nicer cans...

I'll recommend those peas to someone that wants peas, but doesn't mind them cold, cause if you want them hot you have to heat them up yourself. They don't put that on the can.

Whoa...I generally have some sympathy for people who have issues with Alienware. But, sounds like you didn't even give them a chance to make your situation right.

For someone who is capable of producing such a nice looking blog, I'm surprised you didn't do a bit more research before you purchased your computer. The shipping cost should have come as no surprise. Neither should the potential for delay. Although it's unfortunate when it happens, it's also common knowledge that you generally have to send the computer back if something is wrong. As for the restocking fee ... again, common practice for most computer companies; read the not-so-fine print. You've got to give them a chance to repair the problem.

I'll go out on a limb and say that two thoughts come to mind after reading your blog: 1) you never actually bought an Alienware, but just made up a good story, or 2) you ordered the m5550 with the intent of returning it in the first place so you'd have something to write about.

Okay, I'm being facetious (and admittedly not very nice) with points 1 and 2. I doubt that's the actual case, and it's more likely you are just a very disgruntled customer. Sorry you didn't do a bit of research before you purchased, but not sympathetic that you think Alienware's shipping costs are too high.

This guy sounds like a drama queen

I agree about the shipping price it cost way to much. One reason I didn't even consider alienware when buying a laptop.

"Spartans, are you ready!" *Everybody gets their typing fingers ready*
"Tonight we dine in hell!"
Sorry, after seeing 300 I've been doing this. Anyways, but thats a pretty good story. One time I came home from school, and I was living on Mordor. I saw Pegasus, Medusa, and Spiderman. Then I hopped into Speed Racer's superfast car, and drove to the "Island" (the Island in LOST) . True story, if you don't believe me I'm gonna whine.

So you are all saying that if you bought a $2,100 ($2,300 with shipping and tax) notebook you would expect it to be laking in a few areas?
I must admit i like to fix things, and when I saw the flaws on the Chassis I was willing to live with it and the dead pixels where in the center of the screen but I was willing to overlook that (for awhile) but when I discovered the Optical drive wasn't working, and after 2 long phone calls I was kind of mad. Only because I need this computer to do my work. All the problems but the optical drive malfunction would not hinder my work productivity.

I didn't even care about the Notebook getting hot i had a Chill Mat that worked great. But then to top off everything I am in the middle of working and I get the blue screen of death. How can i work like that!

Sorry for all you that do not like my whining, up untill my notebook was shipped I did not read any reviews that were upsetting. Maybe it is my fault for not digging deep and finding out more about the company first.

Its your fault for not digging AT ALL, its called Buyer-be-ware or Consumer Responsibility which are the cornerstone of the American Market Economy, your experience is typical of EVERY company, the only complaint you have is with GOD that you were one of the unfortunate few that got a defective laptop the first time out, but everything else is YOUR fault!

We really need to add a sticky governing rules for complaining in such matters, its every week under every manufacturer, these posts get made by people who didnt RTFM for laptop purchases. That way a mod could just delete these posts and point to RTFM the sticky and we could keep Hammers Blood Pressure down.

At least we all agree that Alienware can't produce a quality product without trial and error on the consumers part.

No, CAD ... We don't all agree with your premise. Most, if not all computer manufacturers have some problems with components. Unfortunately, some of these issues don't show up until the machine has been shipped.

My issue with your rant is that you chose to focus on shipping costs. $99 may seem high to you - you can ship it for less, but you aren't paying employees and overhead (and collecting a profit margin). You knew the shipping costs when you ordered. If you thought they were too high, you shouldn't have purchased it.

I also don't understand why you posted up to a few days after you received your notebook, then never posted about some of the more serious issues you had. Perhaps folks here could have helped you figure out a way to save the $400+ re-stocking fee you paid.

You have every right to be dissatisfied with Alienware, and blog your heart away. I hope you found the perfect computer with low shipping costs.

Man, you really are a whiner. You obviously don't understand much about computer hardware. Things break, it happens. Things can break in shipping on the way to you, after it worked perfectly fine in testing(and Alienware wouldn't send it out if it didn't pass, it'd just be retarded for a company to do). The shipping cost was not sprung up on you, it says it clearly on the website. If you think that's so aweful then DON'T BUY IT! Seriously, what are you complaining about? You could have easily gotten the optical dirve replaced under warranty. If there was something wrong with the case, you could bring that up. If it got damaged in shipping then you need to take that up with UPS or whoever shipped it. Anything else is your own fault. I'd much rather have to send something in to get it fixed than spend $400 on a restock fee.

And BTW, no, I didn't read your blog and nor will I. I won't waste my time after seeing what you posted here.

QFT. Dude, I hope you have better luck with things in the future. I for one understood high end hardware means things can go bad because of the level of performance. I could do the whole car comparison thing, but I'm not going there. It's just not worth the time and/or effort. Sorry you weren't happy, but at least give them the chance to make it right before you complain about shipping it back. Oh yeah, don't respond because I'm not coming back to this thread...

It is people who don't want to let a company like Alienware help fix the mistakes or problems that arise that should not be allowed to even purchase from them.

Persistence and a little bit of patience and Alienware would easily have taken care of all your problems and probably ended up doing more for you in the end as they have done to many customers in the past.

Posting a lame complaint here in a forum section with a majority of very satisfied Alienware customers doesn't go very far. I'm not saying that all the members who have posted were satisfied with what they purchased but if you were to maybe allow people to help you out you might just end up being satisfied with how things were taken care of in the end.
