CAD-er is the joke here. I've seen and read stories about people having bad experiences with companies and most where long and frustrating, but this is really a joke. Whining about shipping costs. They show up on the friggin webpage before you order it.

Maybe If you knew how to read you would understand! It isn't the shipping costs alone numb-nuts! Its a combination of all the poor quality craftsmanship that Alienware represents. READ THE WHOLE REVIEW not just the first paragraph I pasted on this site. You all need to be alittle less shut and open your eyes, just cause you own Alienware right now you think they are Gods. I still think they can produce some great stuff, best chassi by far and Graphics capability in a notebook are the best bar none. But when you get that piece of crap that they 'didn't catch it the quality control process' and they take a month to get it to you - and it comes with 4 dead pixels, a broken optical drive and 2 flaws in the much anticipated chassi - then yes I know you would all be frustrated and then mad when they say just send it to us so we can see if it is covered under the warranty while they keep it in thier possesion for who knows how much longer!
----Fes up! You know that would be frustrating!!!!

Their beef with you is that you never gave Alienware a chance to resolve the issues. People and companies make mistakes... just like you exemplified in the above post with spelling mistakes.

CAD'er,

Though you obviously feel ganged up on, and you feel your Alienware was inferior in finish, had a defective optical drive and lcd, the point is your reaction is out of proportion to your "issues".

You are the one that purchased an Alienware, and everything was disclosed upfront. You knew the shipping costs because they're itemized on the purchase order. I suspect you're just mad about it because you chose to return your machine without fulfilling your part of the bargain. If you return your system without allowing AW to attempt repair, it's very clearly explained on their website and warranty that you will be responsible for the return shipping, and possibly a 15% restocking fee.

You chose that option, not Alienware.

In addition, if your paint flaws were more than negligable, Alienware would have replaced the panels as per the warranty. It sounds to me like you want to bitch and alledge Alienware ripped you off, so without pictures of your supposed paint flaws, I don't believe they were as bad as you portray. I've owned six Alienware systems at this point, and the finish on them all has been very good. I had one panel that was damaged in shipping that Alienware replaced with no argument.

The pixel policy is also very well explained on Alienware's website. No manufacture can guarantee a perfect screen, and to my knowledge unless you pay an extra fee, no company will replace an lcd screen for minor issues. If indeed your pixels met Alienware's stated pixel policy, they gladly would have replaced your screen.

In regards to your optical drive, it apparently got worse then failed while in your possession. Alienware would have gladly send you a new optical drive, or for that matter taken your machine back to inspect your issues and resolve them to their obligation on the warranty. Optical drives are tested at the factory, but not extensively as other components. It's a simple matter if yours has issues to have it replaced free of charge, including shipping. AW covers it all.

These are all very minor issues that would have easily been handled by Alienware if you gave them the chance, but you didn't.

You chose to return the system and absorb the restocking fee, and pay the shipping.

I've seen several cases here and on other Alienware forums where AW was not able to repair a system to the customer's satisfaction, and they were not only able to return their systems without the restocking fee, they were given the option of a full refund or credit towards a new system.

As I said in my first post, if this issue gets your nipples in a twist to this degree, I'd suggest you've got a very good life.

Your post adds nothing to the discussion. If you are here to support Cad, fine ...

We understand the frustration of receiving a system that has problems ... it's no fun to have to go through the hassle of a return and the wait that goes with it. It is unfair to post a blog complaining when someone doesn't give Alienware (or any company) the chance to fix it.

Other people have come here with issues and received help wrt getting their problems resolved. I doubt there is one single owner who posts in this section who would say Alienware is perfect.

Ok so my point is obviously not clear enough for the Alien heads to understand. And I know I am fighting a losing battle against the AW fan club here.
I know that Alineware might have fixed most if not all the problems, but the one problem they could not fix is the time I would go without having a PC. I purchased a 2,000 + PC expecting it to be worth just that. I have had 3 other Notebooks that were all cheaper than this and never had a problem with any of them.
Now I get this m5550 and have multiple problems. I looked past the visual defects and after calling AW support 3 times and each person asking me to do the same thing. I would have not minded getting an optical drive sent to me and installing it myself that does not leave me with any down time. But they will not send me a new LCD to install myself.
So I have probably not gotten anywhere with this but I just can't wait 2 weeks for a "High End" notebook to get fixed.

I truly wanted to keep this I even took before and after pictures of the RAM and how it was not seated right - causing the random Shutdowns.

Actually the problem is, is your a moron, if you ammending your complaint to have the primary issue be your downtime during correction of your issues, this is not a problem with AW but SOP with EVERY company, and if you had RTFM before your purchase you would have known this. On the other hand AW provides several customer service features in this regard that most companies dont, and in general the only way to avoid this is to buy a laptop that costs 2-3x as much from only 2-3 companies who will overnight you a replacement loaner during the process, but This is for only a few uber high end boutiques. And its not unherd of for AW to do the same.

So the only real problem here is that your a moron, coming here, attacking AW, when it is clear the only problem here was your fault, will not garner you any sympathy. And for those thinking this was AW fanboys protecting the mothership, this response would have happened on any manufacturer's forum.

Dont expect an obligatory ego stroke, when you dont have your facts str8!

Calling someone an idiot by typing "your an idiot" is well ummm.......yeah you get the point.
OK everybody ... how about we just agree to disagree?

There's no need to take this to a point of calling each other names and making personal attack. No one is a moron or an idiot. Some of us don't agree with CAD'er's point of view, but he has a right to feel however he wants about Alienware. We also have a right to "defend" Alienware or suggest he might have tried another route.

Seems we've said just about all we can on this subject ...
